Okay, my intent here is NOT to open a "can of worms", but I have a question and it really is a legitimate question. I have one traditional bow. It's an old Shakespeare Mancos 45# recurve. I've played with it from time to time and a few years ago I put a string loop on it and started shooting it with my TruFire Hardcore release I use for my compound. Needless to say it's a lot easier to be accurate with that set up. I know that I catch a little good-natured crap from my friends when I shoot it over at our cabin. We're all compound hunters but we still shoot trad bows too, and at our last cookout/bow shoot I not only won the compound 3D shoot but I won the trad 3D shoot also. So, for the hardcore traditional shooters here, what is your take on this?
Not a hardcore traditionalist but my 2 cents is if you are more accurate and you enjoy it, go with it. People use finger tabs and gloves for the same reason.
Yesterday it was bringing technology into the stand and today it is shooting trad with a release? Are you trying to get burned at the stake? In all seriousness I saw a topic on the leatherwall about this a few days ago, I didn't read it so I don't know if it is what you are looking for but here is the link http://leatherwall.bowsite.com/TF/lw/thread2.cfm?threadid=299492&category=88#4411375
There’s an new electronic release for traditional bows. It does require WiFi though. It’s the iRelease
Probably most stickbow enthusiasts don't care what you use, including me. On the other hand, there will always be the self righteous , holier than thou attitude showing up from time to time. There is a thought I try to keep in mind concerning judgement which can be a big help..."Those who judge don't matter, those who matter don't judge" I prefer the high road.
I remember shooting a compound without a release for a number of years, was skeptical at first when they first showed up. I doubt I'll ever pick up a compound again , if I do, I'd use a tab without sights. Might be a lot of fun to bring out my 1978 PSE Phaser.
Yep, round wheels held by a bracket riveted to the limbs. I think I paid 79 bucks , just the bow.Still have it.
It is like brand new, was given to me and I never shot it. So Chief, what was your rate? I was an AMS2 in VP-45. in the 1960's
I retired as a Chief Personnelman. Well, they merged the PN and the DK ratings into a PS rating towards the end of my career, but I still say Personnelman. One of my best sea tours was with a squadron - VAQ 142 out of Whidbey Island, WA.
The winter league I shoot in doesn't allow it. Personally I could care less if a guy wants to use a release aid on a trad bow, it's his choice. To me it all goes back to what you want to get out of it; if I shot my longbow with a release I would have less of a sense of accomplishment than if I shot without a mechanical release (but that's just me and to each their own), it simply takes less skill than shooting fingers.
