I'm looking for a set of climbing sticks this offseason and hoping some folks can chime in with their insight. My two key attributes are lightweight and portability/packability i.e. nesting.

In my research I've found three that rise to the top and hoping to hear about some real world experience from these three:

    Lone Wolf Climbing Sticks
    X-Stand Mantis
    Hawk Helium

Right now I am leaning towards the mantis as they are equal weight to the lone wolf and have the dual step which I like. What pros and cons have you experienced with these?

I’d look at muddy pro sticks as well. As far as packability and stacking take a look also at stick talons.

I haven't used anything on your list outside of the Lone Wolf products but I can say in 15 years of using them they've never let me down and continue to work today as well as they did when I got my first set. The idea of the double step sounds great but to be honest, I've very rarely ever felt like I needed it.

Admittedly I do really like the way the new Helium sticks stack together with the rubber grommet/ball and socket. Very quick and quiet.

Sounds like the Helium need to be looked at a little harder. Unfortunately looks like they are carried at Bass Pro but not Cabelas so I might have a difficult time getting my hands on them before purchasing.

    Thanks for the info everyone!

I'll tell you right now, they are hard to find. You almost have to get them right after the company ramps up production in the summer. They are usually sold out everywhere by early to mid fall. Good luck!

Good to know. Do they sell them as individuals also? Asking because the 3 x 30 inches doesn't seem to get quite as high as I typically go. That's 7.5 feet with just sticks, and if I give a generous 18 inches between each stick (and ground to stick 1) it'll put the top at 12'.

Lone wolf come in 4 pack and at 4 x 32 that's 10.66 feet with just sticks. Using the same 18 inches between it puts the top at 16'.

Of course coming from climbers I'm used to hunting a little higher, simply because I can.

I have the Muddy Aerolites and the Lone Wolf Climbing sticks and I can get higher in a tree with the Lone Wolf. The Lone Wolf's stack better too.
