With the camera not on your person/bow? Was thinking about getting one with a wifi remote so it could be placed ground level or in a different tree to try to get different angle video if shot Anyone have experience with doing this? I had a trailcam video showing opposite side of deer and arrow exiting the body, was pretty blasted cool video until computer it was on took a dump and we lost video
I have tried it with my GoPro Hero 3+ Black. It works, but sometimes I have trouble getting it to reconnect if I power the camera down. I would suggest using an external battery, that would allow you to leave the camera on all the time, that way you just have to hit the record button when the time comes.
That's what we do - buy a 12 hour battery, a big SD card and let it run the entire hunt. The GoPro will break the clips into 2 GB chunks so you just delete the ones where nothing happened. Trying to use a remote is a pain when you're by yourself. If you have a dedicated camera guy it's a lot easier, but still not as easy as letting it run the entire time.
Wonder how well this would actually work, says adds 5 hours https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014...r=BG8WV6DPM0RZB7JBCXQ0&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65
I tried the remote camera thing for self filming but went back to what worked best short of having a camera person in the tree with you. Action cams may be OK for a different angle but I personally lost getting that memory I wanted with just using the action cam alone.
Here's what I have for a setup. You can use the battery connected directly to the USB port on the GoPro, but it is actually just charging the GoPro battery. This creates heat which isn't great for the camera. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/co...wWVaXDArhoCdjsQAvD_BwE&is=REG&m=Y&sku=1035260 and a battery similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Sunyounger-C...6&keywords=20000mah+portable+power+bank+solar
Depending on weather maybe a couple 2 hours. The colder it gets the less time you get out of the battery. We use external battery packs from Re-Fuel for the GoPro Hero 3 & 4 models. I'm not sure anyone has them for the 5's yet. The 6 hour pack is plenty for a single hunt, but it's nice to have the 12. This way you can go all day (morning & evening sits) and then recharge it overnight. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0181MAR1A/ref=olp_product_details I've also toyed around with plugging my Dark Energy charger into my GoPro Session via USB and that works pretty well too. I think that's going to be my in-tree solution where I can hang the Dark Energy from a limb or tree screw. On the ground I'll use the GoPro/Re-Fuel combo.
Very cool. Thanks. That Dark Energy is bad arse. I'll be hunting opening season in MT in a couple of weeks and FL mostly so cold is not an issue. Ive got the hero 3 Black I believe. Are you clamping the GoPro to a stake in the ground or on another tree Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
