Well folks, year 3 now that I have been absolutely tortured by Poison Ivy, I haven't slept in days. Any good ole fashioned remedies that you guys know of that may help? I'm severely allergic and nothing seems to be working. I have gotten the shot, I'm on a dose of antibiotics, I've done every bath out there, scrubbed myself raw with bleach, tried every anti itch cream/spray out. Nothing seems to help. I'm losing my mind here lol any tips will be greatly appreciated!

I used to have to take steroids for that ****. If I'm out in the woods I use that poison ivy preventative lotion. Works great for me. Didn't get it once this year.

Did they give a steroid cream? It works the best. Take as hot of shower as you can stand as soon as you get out put the cream on the actual rash. I used to get PI even in the winter I used to go to different Drs because they would only give you so many shots per year and the pill steroids are so slow. I don't get PI anymore, I use a supplement and I even get exposed to PI I get no rash. PM me if you want details.

Tecnu works for me. The first sign of a blister put it on and in less than 24 hours it's over. Over course the best is to stay away from it. I assume you know it's the oil on the plant that effects you. If you wash it off right after you contact it , no issues. But if you know you contact it take a shower put your clothes in the washer.

I get it too. Not that bad though. I wear long pants/sleeves when I'm in the woods. Shower asap after I'm home. Wash clothes immediately in a load by themselves. This helps me. I usually take prednisone when I have it bad but that stuff is almost as bad as PI. Hope it's gone soon.

My uncle uses gasoline......for some weird reason it works, he gets the poison ivy to bleed and then puts gas on it, I'd never try it but that's what I have heard of other than what you have said already ...If you try it let me know how it works.
P.S. I have no idea how my uncle is still alive with the stupid things he does.

Best poison ivy advice I've ever heard (Compliments of Grant woods) was to use Dawn dishwashing liquid. It's all about getting the oil out. Use it as soon as you get in from the woods and also if you already have poison ivy. Scrub the crap out of it with dawn. Works better than anything I've tried. Good luck to you.

I also like to ice the rash when I get it. Temporarily relieves the itching

Grant knows his stuff. I'd bet this works the best, esp when done immediately after coming in from the outdoors.

Yep. This is me two weeks ago. I missed a week and a half of work, because the leg cracked and developed an infection. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I never heard Grant say that but I'm not surprised he'd know it. I discovered that years ago. I never did get PI that badly but I'll get a little rash once in a while.
I can confirm gasoline works too but I discovered it by washing parts in gas and I don't use it purposefully to treat PI, lol. I would NOT go take a bath in it!!
I also use straight clorox if technu and Dawn didn't clean it up. Benadryl spray works decent to help with the itch but like I said I never have had it that bad either.
Chiggers on the other hand...I get eaten up by if I don't use a lot of deet.

Once infected, what I always did growing up was scratch it open and wipe it down with rubbing alcohol, got rid of it and kept it from spreading.

I get poison ivy every year but not as bad as OP. I usually scratch open the rash in the shower, clean it out, and then put ivyrest on it. Just an over the counter ointment but it works really well for me.

Luckily I've never had it. Wears long sleeve shirts and pants and rubber boots and work gloves in the woods even at 95 degrees crew...yes I'm pale.

I use to get it bad, but probably have not got it in 7 years or so. It has nothing to do with what I do in the woods, it is going thru a washing/cleaning routine when I get home.

Wash clothes and shower immediately (you must scrub the oil off of you).

I'm not allergic. I've crawled in under a tree and sat in it before, never broke out. My mom, on the other hand, seems like if she sees it, she breaks out.

I get it horribly. I will barely touch it and then I look like a burn victim. Nothing helps except steroids. When I was 10, I got it in my nose, throat, and lungs. At a dirt bike race, the family in the pits next to us we're burning a log with poison ivy on it and didn't know it. Worst I have ever had it
