At least i didnt get skunked. Walked a few miles yesterday and only found this one. I did find a dead shed too. I bumped a good sized herd of deer and the back two were big bucks. One was shed, the other still holding both.
found this one not far from a 'new' stand location, trimmed up 4 new spots yesterday ... scoured the location looking for the other side .. again no luck finding it ...
Had a small 8 drop one side, been walking around like that for a week now. I threw some feed out to see what all is still around, evidently deer and raccoons don't mind eating together lol!
Had high hopes. Saw one of our up and comers with a light head. Walked for a couple miles this morning with the pup and only found a chewed up little one. Donated it back to the squirrels .
She does ok. Shes only 8mo. So we are just having fun. She is a solid multi purpose dog. Shes found 2 sheds and a dead head so far this year. Been on a couple (easy) deer tracks. Points pretty decent in the backyard, havent taken her officially bird hunting yet. Retrieves VERY good. Frozen ducks. And above all she is a sweet heart and so great with the kids. Not a mean bone in her.
8 miles today. Public that gets a lot of shed hunters. We had fun and Roux found the dead head and 1 of them i found the rest. Shes really not all that interested in them and i wonder if its because there is always a few laying around at the house for her to chew on so theyre no big deal or something . On our way out we noticed a fire. Thought it may be prescribed but they do those on weekdays and block everything off. It was so windy it became an inferno in no time. Scrambled to get my truck out of there. i bet in another 1/2 hr-45 min it would have been too close for comfort!
2 miles of hunting today. 400' of elevation change, for Indiana so it was pretty darn hilly. Checked grassy hills, bedding, tore up travel corridors. Not a single shed. Bummer.
Stay at it. Hit some different areas and come back to that one if you saw recent sign. Fresh droppings are what i look for and deer themselves.
My work plans got foiled today so I hit the woods in the rain, turned up 4. They were lit up with the wet ground!
I like overcast/cloudy days for shed hunting better than clear days because of the lighting .. moisture sometimes helps 'em stick out ..
All my bucks are shed according to trail cams but I have looked twice now and nothing. Lots of sign, I'm thinking they shed in the tree nursery next door. Hundreds of acres of Christmas trees and pines for them to use
That’s killer thermal cover I can guarantee there in the pines. I have had great luck finding them in isolated clusters of pines.
Went on a hike with @JeffC this morning before the heavy rain. Picked up 2. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
The 9pt was here on Sat. 3/2, showed up on tuesday missing rt side, Holt found it in opposite direction/ area where I thought we would.
