Generally speaking how old should a kid be to watch UFC in your opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If I am watching it my 2 y/o doesnt pay any attention anyway. but if he did I wouldnt care. Its a sport. Thats like having a kid not watch football.
I let my 5 year old son watch it with me! we also watch amateur wrestling videos (ncaa'a, US open etc.) I want him to understand that fighting is acceptable in it's context. Just like guns are good, in there context. would you let a 5 yr old shoot a gun? sure, you would also teach them the power of a gun. that's my thoughts
Nothing is wrong with a disciplined sport, which is what MMA training is. Might even get them interested in martial arts, not so much fighting, but learning the correct discipline and being able to protect themselves if needed. As others said it depends on the child I would assume, but I don't think it is a one size fits all like some of the anti violence groups would like to make it.
I don't think physical age is as big of a factor as mental age. If the child knows it is a sport between two willing participants, no problem.
I have no kids. But I would theorize that if they're mature enough to shoot a gun and go hunting with the deadly weapon and not shoot someone, they should be mature enough to watch wrestling and not fight with everyone
My 4yo is half way watching an half way playing right now. Wouldn't bother me a bit if he takes interest in martial arts. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Any age? Depends on the kid, I would think. MIT daughter actually is in a MMA class and doesn't care to watch UFC. Yet she dominates her class.
As long as they can distinguish that it isn't out of malice. and that it is a legitimate sporting event between two willing participants, then I see no age restriction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
UFC is pretty violent. My boys aren't watching it until they're 13ish or so. Shooting a gun and watching two guys pound each other into a bloody pulp are not really in the same ballpark in my opinion. Studies have shown that human on human violence (whether for sport or not) have a strong negative affect on young impressionable children.
I don't see an age issue, as mentioned I think it's case specific...my oldest (6) would watch it if it were on...but that's probably not going to happen as I never watch it.
I know I have noticed a difference in my kids when they watch violent type cartoons. The brothers definitely act more aggressive to one another. I wouldn't let them watch at this point. I agree every kid is different. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Any parent has he right to make those decisions for their own child. But for ours, they would have to be 18 and watching it in their own home, not just because we don't approve, but because we don't have cable.
I think the mental age should determine this. If the child understands that they are fighting for points and competition then they should be able to watch. They have to understand the difference between fighting and competition. Instead of talking about MMA, question them on what they think about fighting in general. If you can have a similar conversation as the one between Daniel and Miyagi from The Karate Kid then that would be my answer: Daniel: Hey - you ever get into fights when you were a kid? Miyagi: Huh - plenty. Daniel: Yeah, but it wasn't like the problem I have, right? Miyagi: Why? Fighting fighting. Same same. Daniel: Yeah, but you knew karate. Miyagi: Someone always know more. Daniel: You mean there were times when you were scared to fight? Miyagi: Always scare. Miyagi hate fighting. Daniel: Yeah, but you like karate. Miyagi: So? Daniel: So, karate's fighting. You train to fight. Miyagi: That what you think? Daniel: [pondering] No. Miyagi: Then why train? Daniel: [thinks] So I won't have to fight. Miyagi: [laughs] Miyagi have hope for you.
