According to one report from the Swedish Agency that keeps track of these things, the spike from last year to this year is because there was a great decline in reported assaults from 2014 to 2015. The number in 2016 went back up to slightly higher than the number of assaults reported in 2014. The seven year trend is pretty flat. Having said that, what is the rate of sexual assault in Sweden per 100,000 compared to in the US? Looks like a trip to google is in order. It's a little like looking at the average temperature of the earth over the last 20 years, where there has been an indisputable increase (albeit a slight one) and going back to when we first started keeping records and noticing a cyclical pattern of increase and decrease.

Trump lied again and said that a terrible thing had happened in Sweden last Friday. This of course isn't true so now Fox news is cherry picking and digging at anything they can find to try to make Sweden look like its turning into hell on earth because of a slight increase in crime in the past few years. There is no evidence that Muslim refugees are committing the crimes, but of course that doesn't stop fox news from making the correlation that the crime increase is due to the increase in Muslim refugees.
