Hello all, We are planning to buy a fireplace insert to place in the living room Fireplace Insert | Surplus Furniture . It is really cold here, so a fireplace will be very useful for us. In it's feature, it is given that it has a thermostat heating and overheating control device. Is this worth buying?? Does anyone has this in your home?? Any suggestions??
We frequently see actual wood stoves placed into a fireplace. They are a lot more efficient and give off a lot more heat.
It would be better if the unit was 230 volt instead of 115 volt, with the 230 volts you are running on half the amps, the amps are what cost money.
It being a electric unit, its mostly for looks. They do put out a fair amount of heat, but its electric heat. You would be paying for the electric that is used, but makes it 100 percent efficient. The over heat protection is just a safety switch that turns off the heater off if it gets to hot. Same as a space heater that would shut off if it got tipped over. The thermostat would work just like a house thermostat. It would cycle the heat on and off from what ever temp you pick. My Dad has one in a big sun room and it keeps it very warm. It is very easy just to hit a switch and it turns on, nothing to worry about. The flame is just a light show, and doesn't always look realistic.
