Cow farts can now be regulated in California

California Gov. Jerry Brown kept up his assault on climate change Monday, pushing through a law meant to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions from dairy farms and landfills.
"You know, when Noah wanted to build his ark, most of the people laughed at him?" Brown said, per the Sacramento Bee, adding that that ark saved Earth's species.
"We've got to build our ark, too, by stopping ... dangerous pollutants." Brown's approval of Senate Bill 1383 goes after short-lived climate pollutants, which include methane, black carbon, and HFC gases, per the AP.
Although these gases don't linger in the atmosphere, they still make people sick and hasten global warming due to their heat-trapping ability, per Reuters. "We're protecting people's lungs and their health," Brown said, per Courthouse News.
One of the main methane culprits: manure. Per the bill, dairy farmers have to cut methane emissions to 40 percent below 2013 levels by 2030. Under a cap-and-trade plan, farmers will receive aid from the $50 million or so raised via polluter fees, which they can then put toward machinery that uses methane to create energy they can in turn sell to electric companies.
The state's Air Resources Board can also now regulate bovine flatulence, as long as there are practical ways to reduce the cows' belching and breaking wind.
Under the bill, emissions from HFCs also must be reduced by 40 percent from 2013 levels by 2030, while black carbon emissions will have to get to 50 percent below those levels by the same year.

Not a hard process cap the waste storage ponds and capture the gas, the expense comes from making the methane production a 24-7 process, methane is a dirty gas stream, hard on instrumentation and if you are running generators you have to monitor air levels in the gas stream. Mainatnce of the generators is expensive. It would actually be greener to capture the gas and run it thru an off gas flare but the greenies won't have it.

Funny thing is dairy farming is a water intensive industry and simply is not sustainable in California, you know kinda like growing produce in the dessert.

If the liberals want to "save the planet" so bad then they'd make a lot faster progress by killing themselves and cutting the population by half.

Yes I often think back to those days when we actually had "acid rain" falling from the skies and America's greatest symbol, the bald eagle, was just this side of extinction. Stupid liberals wanting to save bald eagles. Maybe you'd be happier if the chicken hawk was the national bird.

Liberals take credit for successes. Place blame on failures. Nixon signed into law the act that saved Eagles among other things and it passed the House and Senate with overwhelming non-partisan support.

Tell me how Chicago, Baltimore, Flint, Detroit, and many other Democrat run cities are doing. Because the last time I checked, the top 10 poorest cities were all under Democrat control and have been for generations. At what point do we deem this social experiment a failure? Or, is it Bush's fault?

I'd be happier if the wild turkey was the national bird, a bird that's actually worth a damn.

While cattle do produce and give off methane gas the largest producer of methane gas is.........................

swamps and wetlands....... the poster children of most environmental religionists.

I knew you'd appreciate that, I think they're a beautiful bird myself. I don't mind it being the bald eagle but I think the wild turkey would have been cool too. The nation was partially founded on the sustenance of the wild turkey and it's more representative of the bountiful nature and adaptability of the US and is a cleaner bird than the opportunist scavenging eagle. I agree with Ben Franklin.
