Sometime in January of this year I purchased an old 14/48 Lowe Jon boat and since have fixed it up to a pretty descent fishing rig. However my main objective was to use it to waterfowl hunt in Lower lakes and sloughs in nearby WMA, or hunt the back water of the Ohio river given the opportunity. If you guys have any tips or have built your own from scratch and wouldn't mind sharing your ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Also any advice on what brand and HP of motor I should look into. I don't have the money for anything brand new and with me hunting mostly lower lakes and sloughs anyways I need something I can "beat up" so to speak and not have to worry about it. Thanks a ton in advance!

Depends on what kinda blind you want. Do you have a welder? For that size boat aslong as you arent hitting hard current a good 4-7hp should be more then enough.

For motor, 8 wouldn't go with anything less than 15 hp, nobody ever said I wish I had less motor! Myself, I'd look for a 25 yamaha.
As for the blind, sounds like a scissor blind is what you need. Google it you'll find lots of different ways to build one. I used one for years but have went to a hard side.
Ky boy myself, where you at?

I have a 9.9 merc on a 1442 polar craft. That 9.9 pushes pretty good

You can find old 2 stroke motors on craig's list. I have a 1448 and a 15hp with another guy and gear and it still gets up and down the Mississippi well.

    Banded Axe Blind - YouTube

Here is a link to the blind that they used in the video, that they actually sell. You can sell see how it's put together I think I'm going to try and do it as well.

I sold a buddy a 40 HP tohatsu that he put on a 1448. Boat would fly but it was to heavy in the back end for me, it just set to low in the water.
