Does French pressed coffee taste that much better?

I'm trying to decide whether I buy a French press for my coffee. They don't look terribly expensive and someone told me they put a lot of the oils back into the coffee which makes it taste that much better.

    True/False? Any recommendations?

I always enjoyed a cup of coffee out of a French Press...flavorful, bold, "robust" - not sure about the oils, but it's certainly possible. I've gotten lazy in my old age though...now use a Keurig -- punch the strong button on a Vue cup of French Roast, and get a pretty darn good 8 oz. cup of coffee. I guess my least favorite thing about a French Press was the clean up...see, I did mention that I've gotten lazy.

It is good. I think it had more of the oils the the filter retains. Stronger and uses less grounds.

Yes get yourself a French press. You will snub your cofee maker after using it.

The french are wusses. Make yourself a pot of cowboy coffee and drink coffee like a man.

For those that don't know, cowboy coffee is when you boil water and grounds together. When it's done, a little splash of cold water sends the grounds to the bottom and you're ready to pour.

Just joking around. I've heard that a press makes good coffee and have often toyed with the idea of getting one myself.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I think I am going to order one this week. I'm looking forward to it as I am getting tired of drinking watered down coffee from my Keurig.

One of my fondest memories from deer camp was my first time drinking cowboy coffee. No idea why.

I've only used a press a few times (my brother has one)... The coffee was much better.

French press is good but a pain to clean. Not terribly expensive.

If you're going that way go with an espresso maker and just be done with it.

French presses a great, much better coffee. Not sure why people Re complaining about clean up. I just rinse mine off in the sink, down the garbage disposal, and in the dishwasher.

Love French press coffee. The biggest thing is to make sure you get fresh beans and grind them yourself right before you make a pot. If they get stale or dry out then the coffee gets back to tasting like drip. I prefer French Roast over Italian, its dark but not dried out.
On a side note get ready to poop.....alot.

Water temperature has a lot to do with how good your coffee tastes and definitely grind it just before you use it. I drink espresso and after the bean, a grinder is the most important part of getting a good shot.

Truth on the temp. Also let the grounds steep in the water for about 3-4 minutes before pressing.

Never knew this was a thing. I spent 6 years in the Army and have eaten instant coffee and chased it with canteen water. The only thing I really look for in coffee is caffeine, some sugar and the easiest place to get it.

Never liked coffee till I had it in a French Press.
Besides cowboy coffee but that was different because of the occasion.

    Simple answer...yes.

Although I like my Chemex better.

Or cold brew. I've been drinking a lot of cold brew using a Toddy system lately.

I like my french press, but one thing to note is that it leaves a sediment at the bottom of the cup.

You might have too fine a grind.
