So the day that I said would never happen is finally coming...I'm going to Disney World. It's amazing how parenthood changes everything. Anyways, for those that have been, what is there to do with a 3 year old?

Tips? Recommendations? What to stay away from? What is a waste of time? etc

And just FYI, we just got invited on this trip so we don't know many specifics right now, like where we are staying yet.

 Sure. Oct 15-22. Flying into Tampa on Saturday and renting a house just west of Disney. We haven't make our plans on how many days we actually go to Disney. Thinking 2-3 right now. When you going?

Not sure how, but we raised two boys to adulthood without ever standing in lines at Disney. Thank goodness.

We have neighbors that just went with their adult kids and had a great time going to the clubs and catching the live music etc. But, they said it was crazy expensive.

Get speed pass to get on some of the rides unless you don't mind standing in line for an hour for a 6 minute ride that's always enjoyable with kids, mine are pretty well behaved. A hour in line with 90 degree temp and humidity to boot. We went in October. Good luck. We also stayed at animal kingdom lodge nice place.

Are there days of the week that are typically a little less busy than others? Say Tuesday or Wednesday? Or does it not make any difference.

Pack some water and snacks in the park is pricey, if challenged tell them you have a medical condition and need ready access to for and water.

Fireworks in the evening at epcot.

Young kids probably enjoying magic kingdom, parts of Hollywood studio(toy story, muppets) and animal kingdom. Adults liked epcot and adult rides and action show at Hollywood (rocking roller coster, tower of terror). Line was long for kids rides/attractiond at Hollywood get there early and hit them first.

If staying at the park leave mid day and hit the pools at the hotel when it's hottest. Morning and evening are more comfortable temp wise.

Each park except for the animal kingdom has a decent number of indoor attractions to cool down, if you ignored my prior advice...but be prepared to wait in lines to get in (unless you did the speed pass).

not a cheap trip... but well worth it... we stated at the animal kingdom lodge this past February... we had a blast. My girls were 11 & 9. They loved it. I took them when they were younger and it was a bit more "magical", but they had more fun w/ rides etc. this time... never too old for Disney!

so...hypothetical here, if your lodging and "tickets" are taking care of, what other expenses besides food and souvenirs are there?

I've been a dozen times in the last 16 years. Fall is the least busy time. Expect to spend a lot of money but the kids smiles are worth every penny. Watch the parades, especially those after dark. Get seated early as many many people line up. Use the fast pass and have fun. The character breakfast is the best dinner deal. Full large buffet and the kids get pics with the characters. The other food deals are $$ but not much food. Get park hopper pass so you can go from park to park on same day. Buses or monorail will get you there. Have fun.
