Well the protesters wanted a $15 minimum wage wasn't fair that people without an education or skills didn't make more $. Wendy's restaurants just announced that they are going to move towards automation in order taking. Guess that job just got outsourced, seems like those people are going to have all kinds of time to protest now.

It's the same mindless thinking as constantly trying to increase taxes for the top earners and big business. All it does is make costs of goods and services go up which trickles down to the consumers. In this case, businesses have been backed into a corner with Obamacare and forced to pay higher wages for a menial job, so the solution is to automate and a computer needs neither health insurance nor wages. Can't blame the business one bit. I agree, funny, yet predictable, but it's a shame for the honest hard working employees who aren't whining about pay.

A minimum wage hike to $15 will mean pink slips for a lot of people in various industries and business sizes. I think it's more sad than funny. A lot of people will lose jobs who did not ask for this.

there is really one simple reason for the push for $15/hr. The poverty level cannot be set higher than what minimum wage would pay. So in order to increase the Poverty level, they must get minimum wage increased. Once they can increase the poverty level, they can adjust government assistance to cover more people.

I hope the automated order system is more reliable and user friendly than the self check out at Walmart.

I get, and agree with why they are going in this direction but it isn't a perfect or sure fix for their problem.

My prediction is that we will all end up paying more for hamburgers when the dust settles.

I actually like the self checkouts at Walmart. Makes it a little more tolerable to go back there.

I've ate at a Jack in the Box with one of these. It's very simple and intuitive. It sucks that people will lose their jobs, but there have been automation advances in every job out there that has eliminated the need for labor.

Does the employee who has to standby and assist those in the self serve lanes still get paid $15/hr?

Sheetz has been doing just fine with automated order takers. Haven't gotten one wrong yet for me!

I wonder if in our lifetime we'll start to see the government regulate how much you can sell the sandwich for on the other end of the equation instead of how much you have to pay the labor to make it?

Vote in someone like Sanders and it will happen. A very very scary thought that should have every (real) American on alert.

Only if they control all three branches of government. Sanders could not do crap really if the GOP still controls the house and senate.

"Congratulations on your raise to $15/hour. Unfortunately you are terminated because we have to cut back." I see a lot of that in the future. Raise prices and terminate jobs is the only option for businesses. Or lock the doors and put a for sale sign up.

Just think of all of the small businesses that will be forced to increase their wages for all of their employees that don't make $15/hr. Many will unfortunately not be able to afford to keep them on the payroll anymore. Why would anyone want to be a small business owner anymore with the government doing everything it can to make it impossible to grow and thrive? One thing that I find amazing in all of this, is that a lot of the people that got their $15/hr raise lost their government handouts because now they make too much money... and they have the balls to complain about it!
