For 30 years now I have chased trophy small mouth bass down in TN. Our group of 8 guys ended up catching 15 fish over the 20 inch mark. Here are three of the better ones I landed from last week’s trip.
Looking good. I think that is where the world record came from? I have fished Pickwick, giants down there.
My parents used to keep a boat at Pickwick but never fished it. I knew a guy from the area that would come up and fish the Mississippi with me he told me not to bother fishing Pickwick I would be disappointed. Dale Hallow is the home of the world record smallmouth way back in the day.
Most were on swim baits or live bait.. They were just starting to bed All fish were released to fight another day
If you are making a bucket list that involves smallmouth include a trip to Minnesota to fish the Mississippi and the stretch from St. Cloud to Elk River.
Great looking fish! Just got into swimbait fishing recently and it is awesome for smallies here in MI.
I plan on it. My buddy went up last year on a week long kayak trip to minn. He had a blast. No telling how many smallies they caught! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
The thing about the Mississippi that is crazy is you never are sure what you have hooked could be a smallmouth, northern, musky, walleye, channel cat or carp. I have caught them all on the same medium dive husky jerk in a perch pattern.
If you ever make it to MI for a trip make sure to visit Lake Erie, Lake St.Clair, and Lake Charlevoix.
