My wife suprised me this weekend with the news that she had purchased us a trip to the grand canyon. We leave next week. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to see or where the best places are. I won't be doing any guided tours unless someone with more experience than I suggests we do. Any info is appreciated.

    Blessings..........Pastorjim

    North Rim.

Way better, (less touristy) than the south rim.

Visited several years ago and took the train trip from Williams to the canyon. The train trip was great and the town of Williams was nice also. We rode the train up and spent a few hours at the canyon then rode the train back the same day. You could stay in the park after riding the train but we didn't have reservations. The canyon is definitely awe inspiring and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I got to knock this of my bucket list while taking a road trip to Las Vegas last month. Although I would have liked to visit the North rim as well.. our time was limited so we just checked out the south rim. The views there are amazing as well. We made it there pretty early in the morning when it wasn't so busy but it tourist started filtering in pretty quick as we were leaving.

Along the road that runs parallel to the south rim there are multiple little pull offs where you can get out and look and snap some pictures or if your feeling daring you can take little hikes or walk out on rocks and onto the edge. It seems like they give you pretty much free range there so you can explore at your own leisure.

If you go to the Grand Canyon Village there is a grocery store there that has a little cafe in it and they have a killer breakfast burrito that I have been craving every since I had it in case you get the munchies!

Safe travels! You'll absolutely love it!
