Let's just say I had a really good year, To put things into perspective.

I paid 31,000 in just federal tax, and got 868.00 back.

Damn that seems high, and that's not counting my wife.

I got 869 back from federal but I paid nowhere near the amount you did. But I did just start working full time part way through last year.

I got a nice return back in Federal, small amount from MA (but of course, they audited us - so waiting for that), little from DE, little from NY, like $12 from NC, owe PA, owe local.

...and I just panicked a minute thinking that April 15th was sooner than it is.

I think we got back $2,700 on federal this year and for the second year in a row we got some back from the state (which we usually owe something stupid like $20).

I'm still waiting on one document but I'm hopeful I don't have to cut a check this year

Combined with wife's income too of course. We are close to being bumped into the next bracket and that's the last thing we need since we've finally made it to a comfortable income with 2 kids.

You only pay the higher tax on the amount that is over the current bracket. They don't increase the tax on dollar one. So, making more will not hurt you one bit.

Is that only true with combined incomes? Cause few years back had to pay in because I made too much working bunch of ot and because of my age/martial status. And got told could only make 35k before having to pay in. Maybe it's different now this was back in 2009. Just curious more than anything
