What a royal PITA this thing is. So I've been somewhat following it on the news but never thought much of it. Our family had a trip planned to Jamaica in March that I had earned through work.......and then I find out yesterday that the CDC has alerts for travel to anywhere in the Caribbean basically and Jamaica specifically is on that list. More info below........

Zika Travel Information | Travelers' Health | CDC

Our family Dr. and my wife's OB are both saying that no one really knows everything regarding long term issues, and right now are highly recommending that anyone that is pregnant or planning on getting pregnant in the next two years, to not go. It's also sexually transmitted so those they are in contact with shouldn't go either.

Then I looked a bit more and find that this thing is all over North America now too? See the map and link below.....

    Your thoughts?

Just get a cabin on a lake, more affordable, prettier and less people :D

The risk is not worth the reward. It would be tough to live with yourself if you knew, went through with the trip and the health of your family went bad.

You can run but you can't hide. It's in the states also. Go on your trip and take precautions while there.

You could not get me to go back to Jamaica even if it was free. Much better places to go where you can walk the beach and not be bothered.

Hope this doesn't turn into the same thing that happened with Ebola... Media turned it into this giant frenzy and caused mass panic, then all of a sudden it was like someone found a cure and it disappeared.

I'm traveling to Mexico in April and have no worries as of right now.

Not sure how I would feel if I was planning to conceive a child though.

We are 100% out. We are definitely planning on at least one more kid. Was just posting to see others thoughts and prompt discussion.

What really sucks about this is I'm the only guy in the company that has been on every one of these trips since the beginning. And now I'm going to miss one over this virus.

Heard this has been around for 2 years or better but the media finally got ahold of it and blew it out of proportion like everything else.

Seems like something some good bug spray could easily prevent.

Pack your thermocell and enjoy. I've of the opinion that this scare is being completely overblown. Good way to try and squeeze another few billion dollars from the taxpayers.

Just the next thing in line to kill all of us. The pregnancy risk would be enough for me to back out but I think it's the media making mountains out of ditches.

It actually is as easy as this. Apply bug spray when you get up in the morning and continually throughout the day.

We have a family trip planned to Isla Mujeres in March and have full intentions on going.

Island of Women. I did a day trip there from a sailboat. Cool island.

We first stayed there for a week a couple years ago and absolutely loved it. So many amazing restaurants, you never have to eat in the same place twice. And way cheaper than all-inclusive
