Bernie sanders in particular... If anyone has ever browsed Reddit. Explain to me like I'm 5 years old.

How does Bernie sanders plan to do all that he promises???

I don't normally believe Facebook articles I read, but this one struck a chord.

Bernie Sanders for President | The Nation

I think the majority of people rooting for him are people my age (27)... I just don't understand where they thing this money is going to come from. Free tuition, free electricity, economic equality...????? I'm not educated in politics so I'm asking some of you that may know. How is this guy planning to do the things he says he wants to do?

Free electricity has been available since Tesla had the brain storm. Corporate greed never allowed that to happen. The rest of it is just to buy the votes of the poor.

It's pretty sad that we have all grown up in a capitalistic society, one that has been the most innovative and prosperous of all, and these morons think socialism is a better way to live. We live in a country that was supposed to be a government made of the people and for the people, but these idiots think the government is supposed to take care of them. It's a fundamental flaw of the everyone gets a trophy generation.

There's really no such thing as a free lunch, look far enough and you find someone is paying for it. When those that are paying for it decide to stop, those free lunches will disappear.

We have turned into a country where people actually think being a capitalist is a bad thing and being a socialist is a good thing, problem is, Socialist do not create jobs or employ anyone. They only take from those already contributing. Capitalist are what built this country and made it the greatest and wealthiest nation in the world.

Same aged people who voted for Nobama. See where that got us? Isis, terror problems, the recession and "free" socialist health care you have to pay for with your taxes or someone else's. Vote that way again and we are gonna need a bigger plunger to get this country out of the $hitho|e we are in now.

I started reading the article but couldn't get any further after they mentioned they endorsed Jesse Jackson and Obama for their presidential campaigns.

I am really struggling lately trying to understand why anybody would want to get rid of capitalism and free enterprise and willingly turn to socialism. I feel like a fool for not being able to comprehend it. I can't come up with a single decent answer. How can anybody honestly think in their mind that they are entitled to the money of others? And that people are bad if they have money? Bernie Sanders will be the final straw if he gets elected. Too many people have been given a free ride for far too long and it needs to come to an end. If more people had to work to get by rather than receive handouts they would feel a lot differently.

Reddit is such a hive mind website. Everything from Sanders gets upvoted, and anything from anybody else gets downvoted. Its ridiculous and one of the reasons why I cannot stand that site.

Anyways, Bernie admits that he would raise taxes, but his favorite line is "most people would rather pay an extra $1k in taxes and save $5k in other costs"

except the only people that would really be for is poor people, while middle class and upper middle class, those numbers would be flipped

He's doing what all politicians do....make promises he knows he can't possibly deliver on in hopes of getting elected. They are all liars.

I actually think Sanders is pretty genuine. He has a track record going back decades for his ideals. He has been pretty consistent. So that also is a reason why he is popular. He is the anti Hillary on the Democratic side.

Bernie also pushes social issues hard, which for some reason is about the only thing my generation and younger care about.

I think the USA has lost its moral compass! Families are broken and struggling in many ways! Drugs and missed guided yutes! Our badly broken education system and in the music and TV too name just a few. Its sad cause I hate to think what its going to take to bring us back from the brink :'(

I mentioned Reddit because of the ELI5 aspect. I don't visit it much at all.

I still can't comprehend Bernies plans though. Cant wrap my head around how people think his plan is going to help anything.

Let's face it. He appeals to those whose idealism is still strong. To those who have not hardly paid taxes, have no family in most cases. Under 30? Life is simple.....

Let's face it. There is not much a president can actually do to keep the "when I am president, I WILL...." promise. 535 other politicians have their say also. and they can bastardize any good plan in a matter of days.

It doesn't matter if it's Sanders ideas or Trumps. Congress WILL alter/add to any plan so that they can boast they did something for their voters. Would be nice if we could get straight up or down votes on legislation without the vote "buying".

Oh well, a guy can dream I guess..

I don't begrudge anyone who doesn't pay taxes, I idolize them. The principle of taxes is inherently un-american. Taxes are a burden, a tool used as a yolk to bind us into non-freedom. We need to change mindset from one in which we accept taxes and are angry at anyone who doesn't pay "their fair share" to one that advocates abolition of an un-american principle rather than accept it just because that's the way it's always been. We need to face the fact that while we are forced to pay taxes....we were born into bondage and what we call "freedom" is utter BS and a false premise, "Freedom" as it's touted is a hologram. This country was founded under the premise that we're born free and should not be held under the thumb of despots who make us pay for the right to be counted among their citizenry. The very principle of taxes makes my blood boil.

I have no problem paying taxes since I believe they are necessary. We do have infrastructure and defense that are absolutely necessary. I think most problems with taxes is the amount that we pay, and when someone doesn't pay - The rest of us make up the difference. I've said before, I'd be all for a flat sales tax instead of an income tax.

I understand the necessity of tax, where I take exception is how the government spends the money. We wouldn't have to pay such high taxes if the government wasn't wasting so much of out tax dollars, and dollars they are having to borrow to pay for their gluttonous spending.
