Heard a story on the radio today about one of this years best sellers is adult coloring books. I don't get it do the kids take drugs and color, drink wine ? Begining to understand why America is losing respect in the world.

I've seen them. Supposed to stimulate the mind and take up free time... I know what else stimulates the mind and takes up time... A job.

I think if a group of adults gathers on a weekend night to color together there needs to be an intervention of some kind.

My wife does this. She has 4-6 gals come over. They eat fancy snacks, drink wine, color and gossip. Mostly gossip....

I don't get any booze when I color with the kids. And I still can't stay in the lines.

I've been painting and coloring since I was a kid and was a graphic arts major...if I want to sit down with my colored pencils or my graphic markers or a box of crayons, I'll do it and not feel one iota of shame. Nothing wrong with expressing creativity as far as I know.

I dunno, I've never seen an "adult coloring book" but there are a lot of people that can't draw or paint for crap but it doesn't keep them from doing it anyway and selling it as "art".

So funny. At Thanksgiving, our extended family gets together and there are lots of children. They were all coloring and then moved on to something else. Several adults started coloring and had a great time. Part of me actually wanted to join them. I bet Tony is a closet colorer.

I color with my kids every time we are at a restaurant. I could imagine some could find it stimulating and/or relaxing at the same time. Any excuse for people to get together is a good one now a days. I see it no different then some type of needle point, etc.... At least they aren't sitting around playing with their phones.

As a child, the point of a coloring book is to give that child some direction for their creativity. A coloring book for an adult seems to be a mindless waste of time. An adult should have developed enough brain power to be able to actually draw and create their own thoughts and put them to paper.

I am not creative enough to even doodle, not a lick of artistic ability.

Many things can be viewed as a waste of time. Watching movies, playing games, or even sitting in a deer stand. It's what ever makes you happy Sky!

I have many "adult coloring books". They have a huge selection at many craft stores. There has been many articles/new stories stating how it helps deal with stress.

I'm also very guilty for doodling. (Heck, my nickname when I was a kid was Doodles). All of my work things have some sort of "doodle" on it.

No doubt, we all do things that waste time and don't stimulate our brains enough. In my opinion it's part of what is wrong with our society these days.
