I had the doctor tell me three weeks ago that I needed my hip replaced. Says I have no cartilage left in the socket at all, and the ball of the joint is wore out.

I have been dealing with it for 5 years now and its gotten so bad that its hard to walk any distance at all and climbing stairs is real pain in the A$$.

I did the injection deal 2 weeks ago and the hip improved, but not much.

I am considering having it replaced after the hunting season end, but I have a blood clotting disorder also that has me very leery of any type surgery at all...

My question is anyone ever have a hip joint replaced?

If so what was the recovery time and limitations you have to deal with after you heal up?.

First get a second opinion doctors are selling hip jobs like oil changes these days my 2 cents. I had spine surgery in February and I can only walk 3-4 hours a day anymore
The risk for infection is very high in knee surgery my sister in law has had the same surgery three times now.

Had mine replaced July 2012. Was in a tree by deer season. Don't know now why I put it off as long as I did. The last pain I endured with it was on cart being wheeled into the OR. It's just a matter of time before I have to have the other one done. No, I'm not looking forward to it. I won't put it off like I did this one though.

There really hasn't been any. The first couple of months or so, I'd get a cramp in my thigh. Kind of a charlie horse type thing. Other than that there's not been any issues. The ball of my hip was basically caving in on itself, dying. No 2 cases are the same, based on my experience, I'd say get it behind you.

My husband's friend had to get a hip replacement earlier this year (he's in his early 30's). He was having bone on bone rub. Granted it is always easier for younger people to bounce back - but he recovered so quickly. In two weeks he was out checking traps. I want to say four weeks they had him working again. Like others have said, everyone recovers differently. I'd definitely ask for a second opinion though.

He was definitely still using crutches - but it didn't keep him down. He felt good enough to venture out and do that.

My dad is 52 and has had both hips done. It didn't stop him. He says he feels better now than ever before- he didn't realize in just how much pain he was dealing with day in and day out til he recovered and realized how good he felt. He said the second surgery was a different process that the first, and really did not hurt too much at all. He had his surgeries in Mooresville, IN. Supposed to be one of the best in the country for this type of surgery. His Dr was Dr "Barrend" I believe.

That's great that your Dad had the success he did with his procedures.

I have an additional strike against me when it comes to any kind of surgery due to a blood clotting issue I have that is hereditary.

My dad had double knee replacement done in Mooresville in 1998. The blood clotting hit him right after the surgery(we did not know about it then) and we lost him 24 hrs. later.

Mooresville is a great place and one I would consider if I go down that path. I am sure they know how to address the blood clotting risk a lot better theses days.

Thanks -- was hard to loose my best friend...

His passing and finding out about the blood disorder as a result of it has save the lives of other family members since.

Wow---- I now understand your reluctance. There's risk in any surgery without any other issues. I wish the best for you. Feel free to give me a call or a text if you have any questions about having mine done.
