I have a personal day on Wednesday to go to Sangchris State Park in Central, IL. I have a noon starting time, but you have to check in at 9am

    12 gauge and #7 shot in non-toxic

I use #6 because those darned Euros are so tough. I got real tired of hitting them with #7, only to see them fly away and drop from the sky over private land.

That being said, I skipped the opener to go on a romantic weekend with Mrs. Fan.

    Big points for me!

    Congrats!

Husband went out and shot 3 geese in the morning, then him and I went dove hunting behind the house. Kicked about a dozen up and then could never find them again. Did get one. It'll be awhile before we have enough for a meal. Cleaned it up and stuck it in the freezer!

No, Not in all Parks in IL just the two around Springfield, IL. Sangchris and Jim Edgar Panther Creek. Most of the other parks do not require steel shot

Oklahoma does not require steel shot for dove. I went out opening morning and hunted in the rain... them flew pretty well in between the bands of rain. I only killed 2...

Very nice!! Here in Michigan we will never be allowed to hunt doves, ever. The anti's and HSUS got a vote in our state that banned us from ever hunting them. Played on voter emotions and won. Shame on the hunters in Michigan who let that happen. Just something to throw out there for people thinking certain things are always a guarantee.

We usually setup on a fence line for doves.

This time we were setup on a fence line between a cow pasture that had a good bit of trees in it and a freshly gout corn field. We had doves everywhere. A lot were so close we didn't even shoot because nothing would be left. We even had doves landing on the fence we were setup on. If I had got there earlier and didn't miss ( new shotgun) I would have limited out. Didn't do too bad for 1hr 45min worth.
