Went to see my parents last Sunday... Mom has been sick for some time but she was acting really strange. Dad is at the hospital now with her this morning and I am on my way to see what is going on. It may be time for 24/7 care. Dad can't keep this up much longer either. It is hard watching parents go down hill. I appreciate your prayers.
Thanks everyone, I just got back. Though she has never been a drinker, sclerosis of the liver has been taking it's toll for several years and Mom has gotten far worse over the last few weeks. Dad has been a trooper trying to care for her but we can tell it is taking an enormous toll on him as well. The doctor is using the term "pre-end-stage" and will more than likely order nursing home care. We all hate it but it is pulling Dad down with her too and she falls out of bed unless she is tied in. Dad found her this morning with her head wedged between the headboard and the wall with her legs over her head and he couldn't physically get her up so he called 911. She didn't even know she was out of bed. Thanks all for the prayers... those who have healthy parents... spend time with them as much as possible. This day has come way too fast for me and there's no getting back time lost.
Mom had gotten out of ICU and was allowed to go to a Rehab hospital. I was building a new bath for Mom and Dad and the rehab center called Dad. She has become unresponsive and returned to ICU. Her ammonia levels rose to 263... normal is 12-13... according to what Dad shared. This is what the doctor was telling us last week was going to occur; ups an downs with the ups getting shorter and the downs getting longer. Man; it is hard to watch someone you love slip away and you.... I... can't fix it. I always fix things... and I can't... it stinks.
