I have seen other threads for bikes and hunting but here is another one with fat bikes. I am field testing this Cogburn CB4 from New Moon Bike and Ski shop here in Hayward, WI. I hope to gather enough money to buy it before hunting season but being retired it might not happen this year. As you see there is a scabbard and rack on this one. I tried my Black Widow and Mathews Creed on it. They carried solid and no issues. I am looking at more testing later this week and more photos then. These bikes get you into an area faster than walking and the sound does not seem to spook game. Tires are low pressure so there is more float in loose soils or snow. Also a trailer for hauling out game.
I believe you meant to say Cogburn instead of "Gogburn". I've researched this bike quite extensively. When you get right down to it is just another fat bike with a camo dipped frame. For the money I think one can get a much better fat bike if you can live without it being camo. IMHO...
Thanks. I made the correction. Maybe a better bike for racing but what about hunting? Just asking for input. The Cogburn has shaped the stays so hunting boots do not hit them while peddling. Any other things another bike would be better?
I'd love to get a Surly or some sort of fat tire bike. Something that'd do better in the snow for me crossing the lake. Especially with the buck I'm after this year. Its down the priority list right now since I have a Trek already. Maybe after I get more camera gear and a drone.
What is the weight of the Cogburn? I don't recall honestly..... And what is the cost? Not MSRP. Specialized is suppose to have a "hunting fatboy" out for 2015 so I have been kind of waiting to see what that looks like. Here is one of the others I have been eyeballing.. Surly makes a mean fat bike Fitz. In my top 5 fo sure! Here is one that I had been eyeballing. Specialized Bicycle Components
I do not know the total weight of the CB4 but stripped frame is 2200g. Parent company of Surly and Cogburn is the same: Quality Bike Products. I am a Trek user with my MTB a Trek Fuel and roadie is a Trek 5200. Specialized makes good things no doubt . I will watch for the hunter model. Carbon makes for a nice ride in a road bike but don't see the need in fat bikes. Hard to repair carbon breaks.
I'd sweat too much riding a bike. I'd much rather walk, you never know when you will come across a deer while walking to the stand. I'm sure for those who have a long distance from truck to stand it would make more sense, but even then it seems like the sweating is a bad trade off. Just my opinion.
I'd say If you can shoot while riding a bike then you then you are a Bad A$$ and who cares if it is legal.
Would you get extra points if you ran a 150 class down on your bike and killed it? Someone brought up a good point, what happens in the dark? Do you have a light?
Approximately how fat do I need to be to ride a fat bike?? I've done my best to stay off the top of fat things:p
But really though, how is this bike any different than the Trek in my garage? Aside from having slightly larger tires?
Not much difference, but the larger tires help in snow, mud, or sand. You're not riding your Trek though this:
Probably sweat less on the bike since it takes less time for travel. And if you exercise as we all should then it would matter less. 4 wheelers are not allowed in many of the areas I hunt. Thankfully!
