My wife a RN was telling me about using a trocar at work....I'm like, using a WHAT? I told her, Trocar is name of a Muzzy broadhead...I guess, trocar is name for sharp instrument to ventilate/piercing a body! I did a bit more asking around at Muzzy's tech support: Trocar is actually a medieval name for a spear or arrow point that was capable of penetrating armor, thus the reason we could never trademark that name, but it also is the design of our tip, of course refined. We actually did make some trocar tipped medical catheters for the inserting a cannula in bone to inject into it for the medical industry at 1 time, but no longer do that. Trocar tipped instruments are widely use in the medical field. Thanks Mark Land Feradyne Outdoors, LLC Technical Support Manager/ Bowfishing Promotions / Prostaff Director
My wife shoots the trocars, great broadhead. We use trocars to insert chest tubes in people with collapsed lungs. Funny how a trocar can cause a collapsed lung, and the instrument to fix it is also dubbed a trocar.
If you ever see a medical trocar instrument (I've seen a veterinary version) then you will see that the tip of the broadhead is identical to the tip of the instrument. The only difference being the size.
