The other day I got a new pin sight. I've been trying to get my 50 yard shot zero'd in but it's been really hard Bc more than half of my time I've been looking for my arrows. Today at the beginning of the day I started out with 6 arrows and then tonight I came home with 2. I know that it happens and everyone loses arrows but not at this rate. I agree with lighted nocks. It may seem spendy to outfit all your arrows with them initially but it's cheaper than loosing arrows all the time. Personally, I have never lost that many arrows trying to sight in so I don't know that pain. I do know some one that takes a rake to the outdoor range when he shoots, when no one is around, he rakes up bunches of arrows.
Did you get your other pins set perfect before you moved up to 50? Also, can you shoot from an elevated spot by chance? That'll help a lot Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Okay then try moving to an elevated spot and if you can't then focus a little harder. If your 40 yd pin is dead on, then you shouldn't be missing the entire target at 50 yards after maybe 1 or 2 misses and moving your 50 yd pin down a little more each time to get that arrow to go 10 yards farther. Cheap metal detector. My old White does real well. Used it at the public range and was amazed at the number of shafts I found.
Use lighted nocks and/or white vanes or wraps. Also, put your target on top of a hay bail or put a hail bail under the 3D deer. I put my Rhinehart 18:1 under my 3D deer target. Also, clear the area in front of and behind the target with a rake. I hope this helps.
lighted nocks will help. also if your just shooting in a grassy area take a rake and see if you can grab the arrow that way. also when you miss the target stop shooting and go look for it while you still have it fresh in your head. i cant tell you how many times i missed the target and thought i saw where i missed i will find it after shooting a few more arrows then i lose the spot.
I agree with the metal detector. I've had mine for about 14 years now and it works great. Metal detector and a rake has not failed me yet... Don't mean to be rude, but maybe you shouldn't be shooting at 50 yards until you clean your shooting up? If it's a hunting bow (not sure?), why even tempt yourself with a 50 pin if your losing arrows at that distance?
Lighted nocks bright color fletchings and a bigger back stop behind the target something to at least slow down the arrows
How small is your target? If your 40 yard group is good, it doesn't make sense to be missing that badly at 50. Are you spraying all over or missing consistent. Bigger target, or use multiple targets together. Some type of backstop to keep them from traveling far.
I respect your constructive criticism. I have a Mathews mission. I don't hunt at 50 because of my shooting. The reason I was trying to sight it in was to develop my archer skills. I plan on hunting with 50 next season but for now my max is 40. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
