    Hey Guys,

I've been having some trouble with tuning my bow. I paper tuned it, but it is still walking to the left when I shoot. So do any of you have better ways of tuning your bows? Any tips?

    Thanks

French tune. Draw a vertical line down the target and sight your wind age in on your sight by shooting at 3 yards or something close until you are hitting the line. Once you are sighted in, head back to 10 yards and and shoot at the line. If your rest isn't on, it will be one side of the line or the other and adjust your rest accordingly. After that head back up to 3 and sight in to the line again. Then head back to 10 and see where you are compared with the line. Repeat until you hit the line at 3 and 10. You can do it at longer yardage too if you're confident in your shooting and it will be more precise. Make sure you use the same arrow for every shot. Look up some YouTube videos on it, pretty simple concept. After this I bareshaft tune and broadhead tune

same as above only thing i do differently is after i get it close at 3 and 10 yards i do it at farther distances. I go out to 10 yards and 60 yards what would look like really close at 3 and 10 ends up being a couple inches out at 10 and 60. Makes it alot easier to see

Thank you guys, I was having trouble figuring out how i was going to paper tune my bow. This sounds much simpler, I am excited to try it.

Glad you find this thread of use too! I really appreciate the feedback guys. Once this half foot of snow we have melts I'll try to french tune my bow.

    Thanks

Okay, so what's up with this?

I shot at 10 yards, and it's right on, dead in the middle.

I then shot at 30 yards, and it's 2 inches to the left.

Then I shot at 40 yards, and it's about 4 inches to the right.

    What's going on?!

How consistently are you getting this result?

I might look at your sight to see if one of the pins is not inline with the others vertically.

That's where the walk back tuning can help. Your rest is slightly off center causing your arrow to slowly veer to the left and is only noticed the farther you get.

Get it dead on at 10 yards like you did and then go back to 20. Then depending on where you hit you will adjust your rest. (Only adjust in very small amounts) once you adjust to hit the string at that distance then go back to the 10 yards and shoot. You will want to move your sight again till you hit the string.

Then go back to 30 and shoot at the string. If you are off the string by more than an inch consistently then adjust your rest a very very small amount till you do. Then go back to 10 yards and adjust your sight.

This can only be as good as you are a shot though. I like to do this with a 32" target stabilizer so I can really hold it steady on the string. (Do not worry about your up and down when doing this)

There are some good videos on youtube that really show you how to do this as well. The whole concept of doing this is to get your rest and true center so your arrow is flying straight when it leaves the bow. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I can definitely help out.

Thanks, but I understand the basic concept. My problem is that it's off to the left at 30, but then off to the right at 40.

You shouldn't be shooting at both 30 and 40 while French tuning. Pick just 2 spots (I do 20 yards and 40 yards for my second round)

Most time you will find that bring the bow into tune in one area automatically fixes another area.

It could be one of your pins is off center try aiming with the same pin at each yardage just guess the drop since you only have to hit the center line and see if one of your pins is shooting consistently off from your other pins

I don't see this being a rest issue.. Could be second axis of the sight maybe it its a ways off

I agree. I'm fighting the same thing on my HHA TE5510. Shooting at 15yrds using my 20yrd pin shooting one arrow it hits center, still shooting at 15yrds rotate the dial my 30yrd setting hits slightly right, still shooting at 15yrds rotate dial to 40yrd setting & it hits slightly farther right. So I'm assuming my 2nd axis is off, been trying to fine tune that part now. Man it's a tough task with so many micro adjustments that make big differences.

French tuning is not a substitute for paper tuning.
I always paper tune my bow first.
Making sure your arrows are leaving your bow properly, then French tune after!
Its a process, but we owe it to the animals we hunt to make sure our equipment is as close to perfect as we can!

It can be really finicky! I struggled with it a bit when I didn't really understand it but now I just use a door frame and it takes like 2 minutes haha
