Thinking of setting myself up with a bow press once the season ends. No great bow shops by me and have already started making my own arrows. Enjoy tinkering with the bow and think learning from A-Z would be fun.

Anyone on here teach themselves? Any recommendations for getting started? Thanks.

I taught myself and really enjoyed the process. Just research as much as you can, and YouTube was big for me because I'm a visual learner. You can take it step by step and pause the video if you need to.

I agree completely. NO good shops in northern nj. Bough a press and a draw board and do all my own work. Get some things like a bow square, bow vise and a good set of Allen keys and you can do most of the work yourself. I can do string changes, replace limbs and cams and do tune ups way better then the local shops (except waa). There really is nothing I can't do with the equipment. Just make sure to follow the tuning instructions exactly.

I love working on my own stuff. There's a ton of info out there, but the most helpful thing for me was a DVD set from Michael Braden, The Self-Reliant Bowhunter.

Covers a ton of way to set up and tune your equipment. It's a great buy and I'd highly recommend it.:tu:

Great info. I'm definitely going to set myself up. Thoughts on a quality press that won't break the bank? Thanks guys.

I have a Bow Time Machine. It's been nice to have and would recommend it to anyone.

I am in the same boat as Pony30. It would seam more rewarding noing that I set up the bow. But I want to start with arrows first like Pony 30 did and work my way up from there. Lots of good information so far guys thanks for posting.

I got an ez green for 300. How much easier is the BTM to work with.

Pressing bows horizontal they are about the same ...
The Newer BTM can be set vertical and horizontally, they also can be used as a draw board. In fact it's the only draw board I use anymore.
Having it set vertical it also serves as a bow vise
I also like that I can take the BTM and mount it on a tripod ....this may seem trivial...but I can have it out with me when I tuning outdoors at longer distances.

I am not sure if it's worth the upgrade over and a ready purchased EZ green, that would be up to you ....,

Being that I already have the ez green, a bow vise and a draw board or all comes down to convenience. Probably not worth spending the 500 dollars.
