Carbon Arrows

Hey All,
I have switched from aluminum to carbon arrows. When it came to aluminum I can repair/replace everything short of a bent shaft.

My question is can I change the nocks on the carbon arrows. I am shooting Easton Carbon Raiders. I would really like to change to illuminated nocks.

Any help would be great.

Same applies t carbon. Just need to ensure the nocks and inserts are specific to your arrow, or inside diameter.

 

Thanks. I wasn't sure I could heat the carbons up to remove the nocks. Now I know and I can get some illums.

Oh, no. You can't heat them. Sorry, I was thinking of the other aspects. Heating carbon will destroy that part of the arrow.

 

So if you can't heat the carbon to remove the old nock how do you remove them? Or is the answer you don't and I will not be able to use illuminated.

 

I don't glue nocks into the shafts as if the nock gets damaged you can't replace them. Never had an issue without gluing them. I'll glue inserts into the shaft, at which point the nock is replaceable.

Someone else might chime in on how to get glued in nocks out. But, as far as I'm aware, once glued, you're stuck.

 

You should be able to pull them out.

I use the same exact arrows and I just installed Nockturnals. I used a few small dabs of fletching glue to secure it.

 

This may help ya, I use the blue cool flex to make my nocks sit tight and lock my inserts in. It takes very little heat to get the wax melted to rotate or pull out inserts or nocks.

I don't use anything on the nocks, shouldn't have to. They should be a snug press fit.

 

Why would you glue your nocks? I have arrows that have been shot 1000 times and have never lost a nock

 

With carbon arrows, you never want to apply direct heat to them as it will weaken them significantly. Depending on what kind of glue you set them with, you can use a hair dryer to soften the glue up enough to pull them out. Just be careful not to break them off inside the shaft.

Holding a lighter directly under the shaft will damage the carbon. Using a hair dryer on a medium to low setting will heat the glue and not ruin the carbon. I have not damaged a shaft yet with a hair dryer. This only works with your hot melt type glues. If you used any fast set type glue, your sol.

 

Boiling water works too.

 

Nocks can spin if not tight and I find when replacing the stock nock with a lighted nock that they don't fit perfectly tight all the time. Fletching glue secures them but not so much as it would be a problem taking it of with a light twist. Then I clean out the arrow shaft with a paper clip. It's just what I do.

 

Thanks for the answer, I personally have run into this problem myself and this is what I did. Put a piece of a sandwich baggie over the shaft. Then press the nock in. Trim the excess plastic from the baggie off. No more loose nock. If the glue works for you....great. THis is just an alternative

 

This is what I do or put the arrow on your bow and twist the shaft and they will turn in the shaft that's what I do but like said before gofta make sure the nocks are same size of arrows
