I was trying to set my 40 yard pin the other day and missed my target. About 5 yards past the target is a 1/4 inch thick wood fence and that is what stopped the arrow. The arrow went through up the fletch. I looked for cracking and couldn't see any. The only thing I noticed was that some of the writing rubbed off the arrow. Would it be ok just to refletch the arrow, or would i be better off not using it?

Boy that's one of those things you just never know. If you have checked it over real good, make sure the insert didn't cause a crack to form on the end of the shaft or for that matter got pushed inside deeper and you have flexed the crap out of it and it seems sound then..... I guess that's where the old days could have solved your problem in this situation. If it were an aluminum it would have been bent to crap so that would make the decision easy. If you have any doubt throw it out.

I'd keep it if there are no visible cracks...

Put the tip on a table, hold the nock end, bend it and spin it around some. If no noises you are good to go.

This happened to me. Shot missed and hit a brick wall. I inspected the arrow, and there was zero damage to the shaft. I dusted off the tip and kept shooting. Have not had any problems.

Sounds like the fence lost. Cracks can be hard to see though... be careful.

Run a cotton ball up and down the shaft. It will catch on any cracks.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think there is a tiny crack at the end where field tip screws in. Gonna toss it cause it is not worth it.

On another note... this is a good reason to not shoot for groups during practice.

That's awesome! I hit a solid concrete wall once. My arrow bounced back. I flexed the crap out of it and didn't hear any cracking or popping. Took to the local shop and they checked it too. Been shootin' it for about 2 months now. Still no problems. I guess sometimes you just get lucky.
