What do you guys like regarding arrow length? I guess it all depends on draw length , but how much more then draw length? Thanks
I have a 30" DL and my current arrows are cut at 28 1/2". I don't like that for safety reasons. I'm cutting them to 30" after this season.
I would get the free trail of shaft selector program from Pinwheel.com. Put in all the components of your bow and arrow and let it tell you the length. I just make sure they are long enough that the BH is in front of your hand. I still have all my fingers and have had enough stitches in my life. This has worked for me and my buddies.
Depends on your setup. I use a QAD which sits behind the shelf so I can shoot a little shorter than my draw length if I like. But in order to maintain a desired total arrow weight I cut them a little longer. I generally like them about 1/2 to an inch past my rest at full draw. If you shoot a huge broad head you might want it in front of the riser to avoid clearance issues.
I have a 26.5 inch draw and my arrows are 27. Generally it's between 1/2 to 1 inch longer than your draw length. However there are some exceptions.
I shoot a limb driver rest which sets behind the riser/shelf. At full draw my arrow is past the front of shelf. Behind my bow hand. It's still a good inch in front of my rest arm. I've shot like this for years and have had no problems. I think most people have a similar setup. I've just been thinking if something would go wrong at full draw at least the arrow would be in front of my hand. If I cut it even with the front of my shelf.
Draw length is measured from the deepest part if the grip +1.75 inches. So you can shoot an arrow 1.75 inches shorter then your DL and still be in front of your rest. And if the rest is farther back then the shelf you can go even shorter. Personally I don't want a broadhead behind my hand so I go longer. But it's entirely possible.
