hello all, first post so be easy.

But just bought my first new bow and its a bowtech experience and as it is really quiet (even indoors) was wondering if cat whiskers or other string silencers are still valid technology?? Seen other posts about this but with the new technologies, are they outdated or still useful? I have a stabilizer and vibration control, just curious as to this topic.

I don't use them or anyone I know. They ad alot of weight to the string making your arrow fly slower I think they are pointless on todays bows maybe 10 years ago they were good lol I shoot a Mathews I use 1 or maybe 2 monkey tails that's about it I basically have it on there for color and looks but cat whiskers and others like it are a waste of money that bowtech does not need them if you want something awesome that takes out all damping and shock let me know but I would put my money towards something else but it's up to you.

and those are my thoughts on the matter too but was watching a show the other day (heartland bowhunters I believe) and he had the cat whiskers on his bow and that's what brought this up. Like I said my bow is extremely quiet and wasn't considering them but was just wondering what others actually thought on this subject. with all the new tech on bows and stabilizers, I figured they were old tech

A quality, well tuned bow with quality strings that is shooting the right arrow shouldn't need a bunch a junk on it to quiet it down.

As a string builder, I see a lot of bows and some can be quieted down by a good string and proper tuning and some not. Those that won't quiet down the best form is cat whiskers and a heavier arrow. Works every time.

Catwhiskers work, that's why they are still being used even after all these years.

I would personally use String Leaches before cat whiskers just because they aren't as big and aren't as likely to get in the way of the peep sight, but both work close to the same. the stab is going to help more than those will. Already been mentioned, but a heavier arrow would work better as well.

If you make your cat whiskers small enough they cause no problems

Hutch nailed it but the Experience is a very quiet bow. As long as you don't notice anything you should be good. I would have some stand near you and close there eyes to listen. I like for my bows to be as quiet as possible. I need all the advantage I can get :tu:

In my personal opinion string silencers are outdated and string stoppers/decelerators are the way to go. Some bows and strings are tuned so well that nothing is needed.

From many years of experience I have found that string leeches don't last very long. They cut down the middle and fall off.

Mine did that just the other day... I think it's a design flaw personally. To much flexing each shot.

I use the Bowjax one's for a while and they didn't do it like the leaches did. I'm gonna get cat whiskers next time from Hutch. I don't really need them...but it can't hurt either. Maybe it will help, if not nothing lost.
