How should I take off a Mathews wood grip?

Without breaking it?

I've got a focus grip on order and the archery shop said they usually break when they pull them off.
The grip on my older M6 Mathews starting coming off by itself and I had to glue it back on.

Would just like to save it incase I ever want to change back or sell it.

 

Buy a Hoyt. I am just teasing. Two of my boys shoot Mathews and I have never seen it happen. I would contact Mathews and see what they say

 

I remember reading once that you should use a hair dryer to remove it. Should heat up the glue enough to take it off without breaking it. Haven't tried it yet but thinking of switching grips also.

 

I just put a focus grip on my bow a few months ago. Take a hairdryer to the back of the grip and hold it there for a while. Then try to start wiggling the grip off. If you can't, then back to the hairdryer. It's takes a while to get off, but putting the focus grip on is a piece of cake.

I put a focus grip on my z7x. I used a hair dryer and small screwdriver. You need to be careful not to damage the finish on the bow.
I was able to get it off without breaking it, but the shop guy also told me that most of them break.

The focus grip is easy to put on. Read through the directions, then do a couple install practice runs before you put the tape on. It goes on kind of awkward.

 

I have removed mine several times, used a hair dryer the first time, and a heat gun (on the lowest setting) the other time. Take your time and let it get good and warm. They break because guys don`t let them get warm enough IMHO.

I just ordered a focus grip myself, should be here next week.

 

Interesting that my local Mathews dealer doesn't know this and is ok with just breaking the old grip off.

I rarely go to this shop because of their additude a there.

 

I would try the heat gun lowest setting, but with somthing thin like a stainless steel spackle knife..just my opinion

 

I have taken off several without any damage. I use a hair dryer. Some have lots of glue so it may take a while. I have had to cover the grip with a towel a time or 2 to keep the heat in. I never use a tool. Just pull the top then bottom and it should start to wiggle. Be sure to stay away from the strings with the heat. Also if it has adhesive other than factory or the 3M weather strip adhesive (#80008 I think) it may be difficult to get off. I have only heard of them breaking when it was epoxied on by someone.
