I've got a bow that's kinda older and a few chips and scratches in the paint. No big deal just thought it would be cool to paint it solid black. I don't really know what kind of paint I would use or if it's really possible to do on my own. Anyone ever painted their compound bow on their own before?

I've painted many bows , risers and limbs , flat black with matte finish clear coat , they held up for years , once tore down it aint rocket science
Not trying to make it complicated or anything I just wanna do it right(can you blame me?). Plus I know pretty much nothing about paint. Do you sand it? What kind of paint is good for a base layer? What's good for a finish? Any advice would be appriciated.
sand it with a 400 grit , then primer it twice , then sand it with 800 and paint it , give it another coat let dry and give two or three coats of matte clear
i wouldnt advise sanding it that will weaken the limbs and riser you may get it all painted and put back together draw it back and snap the limb
No it wont , your just scuffing the thin layer of dipped camo off of it , i've redone a ton of bows and there is no harm in it what so ever , send your bow out to have new camo on it and they will do the same thing before they primer it before dipping , just call anyone of them and they will tell ya that .
bad idea to do it on newer bows as the value will go way down and u will take a big hit if u decide to sell it one day older bows that arent worth much, just fine to me i guess
There are some great Camo Dips on the market. May be easier and look more professional. I think Ultimate Camo sells some on their site...
I used ppg paint products for my daughters. Depends on how far you want to go with it. I used a candy red and did some silver marbalizing under that. It gets more complicated when doing things like that.
Once your bows 2 years old, you aint going to get anything for it. Everyone wants the latest and greatest. Anyways, it would take a long time to sand through a limb, it could be done i guess, but you wont. Just use thin coats of paint so it dosent run. A really good paint job can turn out like crap with a run. Take your time and youll be fine.
