Went target shooting the other day and shot horrible. I lost an arrow and was all over the target. My groups from 40 yards were about a ft. apart. I was working on better form with my grip stance and how my bow sits in my hand. I want to go back to my bad habits. I think I will shoot from 20 yards next time and work out to 40 yards and see if my sights are off. Very frustrated with my self but its practice for a reason.

Just keep at it, and don't be too hard on yourself. I know my confidence tends to plummet after a 'bad" session, but it always comes back around.

How was your day before that? Were you stressed out at work? Sometimes if I am stressed about something completely unrelated it can affect my shooting...

Blind bale shooting is great for form work.
Sounds like you were forcing it.
Come in closer til the form is right.

Actually I was stressed about stuff. I was also frustrated more by the way I shot. Glad you posted this it makes me feel a lot better.

This is going to sound funny but could you post picks on how your grip is in your palm. I think that's where I am struggling. Also what is blind bail shooting?

Blind shooting is just that, stand close to your back stop so you can't miss and just shoot into it focusing on good form. Do you have anybody to shoot with ?
As for my hand it's open and relaxed, not holding like a baseball bat.
I don't if my avatar shows it or not, I'm mobile so I might be slow on better pics.

I think even though I don't close my hand I keep my thumb and pointer tight to the bow. I am trying to let the force of me pulling back on the string do all the work.

When making changes to anything related to my bow(Grip, stance, sight..) I always get dead on at 20 yards. Then I walk back 10 yards at a time. Because I don't want to bury or lose an arrow. Stay with it and it will get better. The next few days should be ideal for shooting with the cooler temps. Let Them Fly!!

We all have had those day. I still have them. I do agree though, when trying to correct things - move closer to target. I can shoot all over the place at 30, but move to 10 and pile them up.

Don't give up - breathe and try again tomorrow! Just remember - it's the first arrow that counts the most!

Yesterday was my first day shooting in 8 months...I know I know....and I was horrible at 30 and 40. Piled them up at 20. Today I just shot 30, took my time and did much better. Every day is a new day my friend. Keep at it.

I was literally about to post a thread asking what everyone does to recover from a bad night of shooting. Such a defeating feeling. Time to shake it off and go back at it tomorrow.

I hear you there brother it is very hard to recover from a bad night. I went back to twenty and started there. I got my confidence back and it was a good night. I relized what I was doing and fixed the problem. I didn't realize how much the grip on the bow would change my shot. I all ways thought it was my sights or my peep. I all comes down to how you grip your bow. I held it with a loose grip and shot a lot better.

Bad news for me is that I was shooting 20 yards for an indoor spots league. In terms of hitting vitals on a deer I would have been totally fine but didn't smack the X as many times as I usually do. I was working on some form the night before so that might have done it. Going to blank bale some tonight to get my confidence back.

Hey give the guy a break, a new energetic member is a good thing. Plus you have to have a high post count to properly manage a thread.
