Please forgive me if this is the wrong place. I have been offered an engineer job in Dallas/Fort Worth area. I haven't decided yet if I am accepting. But bowhunting is a huge part of my life. Can someone give me some details about bowhunting in Texas? Do you have to own property or have a lease or is there some public land? How do you all hunt whitetails there; blinds, stands, etc.? The pictures I've seen some areas seem really thick. Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated!
I have no issues with leasing, but I asked because I really don't know anything about that area other than what I saw when they flew me in to interview last week.
My father lives in Coleen county just north of Dallas so I am familiar with the area. Leasing is the norm for the area for the most part.
Leasing is definitely the norm. But there is public land. I live two and a half hours east of dallas. There are two public land areas new me. Wright Patman Core of Engineers and White Oak WMA. Im not 100 percent sure of public land in dallas area but I do know there is some great public land here. In texas, there are lots of hunters and a lot of bowhunters. One thing about texas, it has one of the longest rifle seasons of any state. It starts november 5, this weekend, and goes to January 2. I will say, White Oak WMA is an archery only public land only giving out a few muzzleloader tags for the property. I hope the best for you and your job opportunities!
I am kind of used to that, on a smaller scale of course. PA is a lot smaller than Texas but sells close to a million hunting licenses. Nothing has been decided as far as if I am accepting the offer yet, but I appreciate the info for sure!
If you do decide to come down here, you should hit me up and we will go out to white oak together. I haven't hunted it yet but I have really been wanting to hunt that place. Looks like a nice piece of property with room to get away from other hunters!
Sure thing man. Right now it looks like I may accept the offer. My wife is on the fence about moving away and that is the only hold up. However I am ready for a change.
I am definitely relocating. I will be there right before or right after Christmas. The offer was too good to turn down.
Hello from CT just started bowhunting, whitetail for now but would like to grab some pigs in the future any good outfitters or recommendations?
I am on my way. I start Monday. I stopped in Jackson TN for the night because it was getting really icy out there. I will be staying in Arlington for a few weeks while we wait to close on our house.
I don't know anything about Texas, but if i were to go there I would buy/wear a belt buckle! Congrats on the new job!
Welcome to Texas Coop. Look up Texas draw hunts with the TPWD. They have a map on there that you can find most of the public draw hunts. They will post up all the new dates and hunts in mid July. Drop me a PM if you want to know more particulars.
There is public land that you can hunt in if you go to the TPWD website. You can get information there. I do quite a bit of public land hunting in Texas. There is also the national park in Amistad national park. You just pay $20 and you can hunt all season long. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Hey coop, fellow Texan here. I live about a hour north of dallas and there is great hunting out here especially if you can find a spot along the red river. Hagerman wildlife refuge has monster bucks but you have to be drawn to hunt. It is in Grayson county which is bow hunting only and they also have public hunting land which is not bad at all, I wanna say it's close to 4,000 acres of public land. Thanks man. I have been here since January 6th and we officially moved into our house in Springtown on the 30th.
