Hi everyone as you can tell from my name I'm from maine. I have never hunted hogs before and I am thinking about planning a trip next year down south to try it out. The first place that came to mind for me was Florida as I know some people who live there so I would have a free place to stay. Having never hunted them before my question is when is the best time of year for a hunt. Also if someone knows a better area I'm open to suggestions. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Hogs can be hunted all year, my favorite time to hunt them is just before and just after deer season. I've had good luck finding them out in daylight more then, probably cause it's not so hot. I don't know specific places to hunt in Florida but I know they are supposed to have a lot of hogs there. Good luck planning your hunt , they are a fun animal to go after.
Awsome thanks for the info. I can't wait it will be my first hunt out of state so should be a good time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Next month some buddies and I are going on a paid hunt here in Alabama. The cost is $500 but that covers lodging and food. It includes a Friday hunt, Saturday hunts, and Sunday morning hunt. The cool thing about it is they are focused on eradication, so there is no limit to how many hogs you kill. They want you to kill as many as possible. We are pretty excited. I think it will be well worth the money.
That sounds like it would be a good time. Definitely sounds like you are able to get your money's worth out of it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
I used to hunt them on the Alabama and Georgia sides of Fort Benning( near Phenix City, AL and Columbus, GA). If you have base access it's a great place to hunt pigs, they have a lot of them and turkey season is the only time they prohibit hog hunting.
I'm alittle late to this thread but really any where from Georgia to Texas along the coastal states are going to be swarmed with hogs no doubt I hunt them with dogs in Louisiana because we too try to eradicate them from our property that is until the next family moves in a few weeks later I've found best time to hunt is early morning or 8-1 at night
We are actually headed down for our hog hunt tomorrow morning. We hunt tomorrow night, morning/evening saturday, and morning sunday. Hope to post up some success!
from my personal exp. I would not use any kind of mechanical broadhead. Its tough enough to penetrate the shield on these things. So make it easy as possible. Heavy weight forward arrow and a cut on contact broadhead
