Which states in the southeast do you all hunt? I grew up in Louisiana so most of my hunting has been there, but since joining the Army I have also hunted Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama.
Farthest south I have hunted is NC and SC. I like the northeast more and currently am focusing hunting in VA
I'm in Alabama, mostly hunt in north al, but do go down to auburn and hunt some with friends and family.
The area I hunt in Georgia and Alabama is only 30 minutes from Auburn, it's all owned by Fort Benning. I spend most of the time I have in the woods on the Georgia side though because I can get there quicker from work and I've had a lot more time to scout there.
I live and hunt in Louisiana although on occation i go to my cousins ranch in Austin, TX. Let me tell you something, it is some hard hunting down here, especially if your in a club where there are over 50 members and each member has 3 stands and you can only kill a doe or a 6pt buck. I'm only 12 so thats really agravating to pass up a nice 5 point or a deer with a deformed rack thats going to be breeding on the does and passing on their bad genes to the offspring. At least any deer still gives me some nice backstrap!!!
I was lucky enough to have a family that owns a lot of private land where I hunted in Louisiana, although I did hunt public land in central louisiana near Fort Polk for a couple years after I joined the Army. All of my hunting outside Louisiana has been public land so I have never had to pay dues or follow club rules.
My papa owns some land in evangaline but there are almost no deer there and the ones that are there are nocturnal so we got a membership in jonesburg. We went coyote hunting there once but a hawk took our decoy. It was pretty funny now that I look back at it.LOL.
Oh and I forgot to thank you for serving our country in the Army. I have plans to be a Marine Sniper so I have more respect for our brothers and sisters that have served (and that are serving) over seas than most 12yr olds.I cant even tell you how much of an honor it is to be talking to such a courageous man. thank you once again for serving our country.
I hunt in Tennessee on my land....own a 101 acres where I live...then hunt a 1100 acre lease about 45 minutes from me as well. Middle TN has the most deer in Unit A....which is about an hour or so West of me. I got to Smith County a few times a year. You can shoot 3 Does per day in that unit....lol.
I used to live in fort bragg in NC and we might move there again, I just wanted to know how the hunting is up there?
Thank you, something to remember having goals such as becoming a sniper is that you need to graduate high school because GEDs are not good enough, and you will have your background checked so stay out of trouble. Good luck this season and with your future goals.
Being that you are a younger hunter and most likely shooting a lower weight and shorter draw length bow I would recommend avoiding mechanicals and using a cut on contact style fixed blade broad head. If you are dead set on using a mechanical I advise getting one with a cut on contact tip and a smaller cutting diameter. Most lower weight bows don't pack the necessary energy for reliable penetration with large cutting diameter mechanicals.
