Loop\Nock Space

quick question guys-

i had the guy at my local shop tie on my loop and when i nock an arrow, there is about 1\16" space between the nock and the loop on the top and bottom. when i asked him about the space he said it was to eliminate nock pinch at full draw. is this right? it just seems like there is a lot of play there - if im tight to the top of the loop vs. the bottom that could be an 1\8"....?????

 

Seems like a big gap to me.

 

thats what i thought..... even if there is a little pinch at full draw it should relax when the string returns....right?

 

Not sure if this is right or not, but what I've done is start with the spacing tight. then I nock an arrow, and pry the knot slightly by bending the arrow to 45* up and down. Has worked for me.

I'm interested to see what tfox or bruce have to say here

 

You will need some space if using brass nocks but a total if a 1/16" should be plenty. Just slide the arrow against the top nock everytime.

I usually put LESS than a 1/32"(total) clearance with tied on nock sets. They can even be touching,just so their not tight against the arrow nock.

The tech that works on my bow always ties off a thin serving above and below my nock first. he leaves a 1/16 (approx.) clearance there. Then he ties off the "D" loop above and below that. That helps keep the "D" loop from pinching down on the nock while at full draw and seems to acutally help release the arrow smoother and more consistant everytime.

looks like a big gap to me and alot of room for error when your thinkin on the fly. plus you dont have an anchor point where you can make sure your arrow is in the same place every time.. just my opinion.

 

thanks for the help guys! im gonna tie of some serving in there so i can get a consistent nock point.

 

I have maybe a 1/32" with plastic nocks, I slide my nock down against the bottom of the D loop everytime. Does it make a difference OR does in not matter as long as you go the same place every time?
