Well, went down and checked the Monster Raxx log this AM... The deer are stopping by, which is its intended purpose. See Tom, there are deer in Ohio Ill be checking my actual Monster Raxx lick tomorrow while clearing kill plots.
Mixed results, after putting the corn down, the deer did stop by in good numbers to eat. Well see if they keep coming back...
Since the 18th, not a single deer visited the lick or even walked by. I did have a couple crows stop and pick at the bare earth. As much as i hate to say it, i think it is time to abandon this site and put a new lick out in an area where the deer frequent more often. This one has me stumped though, no doubt.
I agree with some of the other's thoughts...the deer will come by, but if it's at all possibly (not sure if in your case it is) I'd be firing up a chainsaw and using a hand saw to hinge about 30% of all trees...then prolly do some more haha!
Great thread so far! Goes to show how important location can be when starting new sites. Years ago I had a site that barely got visited so I scrapped it and moved it into a better location where deer frequented more often and nearer bedding cover. Best decision made yet as it is now my most visited site. Now adding the Monster RAXX to my arsenal and two additional sites on our property there in Ohio I have high hopes for them!!
I have one more bag that im going to put out today. Ill use the attractant spray as well and set it up near known bedding/travel routes. The game camera will tell the story next week when i check it... Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2
Also gotta remember it's still not high time for minerals, especially at a new site location. I'm going to refresh a new one on one of our properties (sadly here we have to tear them out each year) and if sign shows use I'll be hanging a camera on it.
The new location has been established. I found a natural depression that holds some moisture near thick cover and known deer travel routes. With a shovel, i cleared the leaves out, broke up the ground a little and spread the Monster Raxx all over. I then added the rest of my cherry attractant spray, set up a game camera and left the scene after i snapped a few photos. Next week, the mystery will be over.
Looking great again!! About the only thing I would recommend to add to it next time you freshen it up is a good sized log right in th middle of it. That way when you pour the Monster RAXX over it some will leach into and around the log, gives the deer something extra to lick on in between freshening. I have one set up using an existing stump and you can see where they have gnawed on it and often are caught licking it as well. My other 2 Monster RAXX sites are new this year and I used a big log at each.
I can't wait to see how this turns out. I just got my monster raxx minerals and apple spray in the mail so hopefully i'll get everything setup next weekend Sent from my SGH-T959 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
Before you guys get too excited, remember i did this once already this year (see page 1) and had failing results. I had a handful of deer visit it at first, then it went stone cold. No visits for 3 weeks. This is attempt #2 at a different location, probably a quarter mile or so away.
Well, after one week...the deer have found it. They havnt been hammering it, but they have been coming back for more:
Just one. There was little water in the site when i laid it down, but after a few rains it filled up.
