At that angle, if it were a passthrough I would say she is probably dead now/soon. 6" after a deflected arrow would make me nervous. What angle did the arrow go in after the deflection? Again, the positives of waiting far out weigh the negatives.
Tracking a gut shot deer is gonna be tough at night. The hole may close up leaving no blood. I'd start the search at 5 (that gives her 10 hours) and you an hour or so of light.
Alright here's the update, fallowed the blood trail for several hundred yards until it came up on a property we don't have permission to get into. Knocked on the door and I'll be in there in the morning. Blood trail looked like a mix of gut liver shot and was pretty steady the entire way, never bedded on the trail for nearly 300 yards so in guessing she's bedded not to far from there. Everyone wish me luck for the AM. And on a side note I just got to the proshop and purchased some slick trick vapor tricks.
Try to bumb up your arrow weight to above 380 if you can. If you do this you will have better penetration(more then likley they will be pass throughs) with larger broadheads.
2 for 2 on Bloodrunners. I will continue shooting them next year! I still think your KE is fine if you don't hit a branch. Its not the broad-heads fault here. Good luck finding him!
Well after tracking last night up to a property line, went back this morning after getting permission from the land owner. The blood trail was impossible to find after the frost this morning and it turned into a grid search. After hours of searching every inch of the property's I had access too resulted in nothing. This is a very bitter experience for me and is really making me rethink a lot of my decisions in the woods. Now it's time to reflect, recharge and hopefully try and fix all my own mistakes. On a side note might have gained access to a new property this morning where I glassed two 130+ bucks and about 15 does.
