Can a buck keep his antlers without dropping them? I have one buck that hasnt dropped his antlers and the rest of my deer dropped their back in December and early January.
It can happen. He's probably sterile. http://www.buckmanager.com/2011/09/06/bucks-that-never-shed-velvet/
Lots of stories and bucks have this occur. Cactus buck is the the term I've always heard coined for them. Lot of times it can happen when a buck castrates themselves on a fence wire or was just born with irregular testicles. Some amazing stories and bucks have even been declared "un-scoreable" due to this.
One of the most famous ones, The Sammy Walker Buck. Short story by Legendary Whitetails http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7sd0xiFmns
It's late, but some bucks will hold a good ways into March. Most bucks I've seen that keep theirs have all or most of their velvet.
We had a buck hold both sides until April 15th... Didn't lose the second side until the 23rd! Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Just straight up holding a rack then shedding late we've seen quite often. Our big boy two years ago was on camera on April 21st still sporting both sides.
