I had a nine pointer that I was excited about that showed up on my camera mid August. He was passing through the area at sundown and left me with a good profile of pictures. Then, he vanished. Now, 20 days later, he is starting to make his presence a little more known. Recently, I have had him on three different cameras for five different times (I cant confirm the last set of pictures is him but am pretty sure). Here is the last set of pictures I got of him back in August: http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?37127-Camera-Check-Score I am thinking he is in the mid-130s and 3.5 years old? His body looks big in the first couple of pictures then average in the rest so I dont know what to think of him. By looking at the IR I think he only has one functional eye, but cant tell for sure. Now I am torn if I should hunt him hard right away or wait until rut rolls around to pressure him.
if he holds to that morning activity in daylight and you can get in there without deer knowing it, I would be there and down wind somewhere waiting as soon as season opens. If you don't have a stand in there yet I suggest you do it mid day as quiet as you can and preferrably in the rain. He is probab ly bedding not to far away.
I have a stand by two of those three cameras. I had to get in and check cameras yesterday because today is the first/last time its going to rain in a while. Wind pending, I think I know my first couple of stand hunts! Never, ever have I had a chance at a buck of his size this early.
I wouldn't wait for the rut, he could be miles away then. I'd be after him as soon as the season is open
Daytime movement of a buck with great antler mass.....priceless! Good luck getting in there to get him.
