Having used standard trailcams for a while it was very refreshing to try something different. I found that the Plo****cher time lapse HD video camera from Day6 was quite a treat to use. Using only four AA batteries, you simply choose your desired operation mode from the time setting menu and secure it to included stake or tree with the supplied bungees and turn on.
Instead of using SD cards you use a 4, 8 or up to 32GB USB drive. The Plo****cher may require a firmware update if you are going to use a 32GB USB drive, recording up to 84 hours of activity or approximately 35,000 images on 1 set of AA batteries.
Then view your activity by using the free to download “GameFinder” video player software which is a breeze to install and use. Now you can see just where that big buck is entering your plot or field without the need of it to walk within 50 ft of your trailcam and then leaving you to wonder where it came from. The Plo****cher records 7 days of daytime time-lapse video, allowing you to capture images every 3,5,10 or 30 second intervals. Increase your viewing area by 10X with the Plo****cher as well. You can also customize your recording time to allow for midday skips saving recording space.
The idea behind time lapse as stated by Day6’s website states: “Unlike trail cameras, that trigger on short-range motion, the Plo****cher and Plo****cher Pro capture images of an area regardless of how far the subject is from the camera. This greater field of view allows the hunter to see game and their travel patterns that would have otherwise gone undetected by traditional trail cameras. As a result, time-lapse video shows exactly what you would have seen as if you were in the stand.” Also, the way the camera is designed and the size of images captured allows you to get much more time on one set of batteries as with a standard trailcam.
I have had the privilege of using the Plo****cher to document our new plot this fall and capture some deer coming through as well. The “GameFinder” software has been easy to use and allows me to quickly find any motion that was recorded. The camera has held up well under heavy winds, rains and chilly temps and still comes through with great images.
