Planning on putting in a food plot but noticed that it is really rocky. Was planning in planting soybeans surag beats and some sort of oat or grass.what will grow good in rocky terrain and what won't.
Just noticed this hasn't got a response for a week or so, so I'll take a stab at asking some questions that might help you get a better response. How big of a plot? How rocky is the soil? Any photos of the consistency? I think if you do a soil test and fertilize and lime according to your test results, you should get things growing. If it's super rocky, it won't grow as well as if it was rock free, but you work with what you have. Anyone else have any suggestions?
Go check our Growingdeer.tv. Dr. Grant Woods is the host and he owns 2000 acres of nothing but rocky soil. He does a lot of videos on food plots and how he grows them in that terrain.
Planning on doing a smaller food plot. And it is very rocky the who top layer is covered in large rocks and stumps. It is mostly hard wood over the top so the leaves break down every year should be good soil no pines in the area
Sounds like it's going to be a lot of slow hand work. Of course even raking and opening the soil up enough to give the seed a soil bed to get root in will work. Won't be as good as nice smooth loam but if that is what is available in that area, any good green forage should be received well by the game in that area.
