Wow!!! A friend shot a nice buck last night and asked if I would cape it out for him. The knife that I was using was beginning to dull and he said, "here, use mine." I didn't ask what it was, nor did I care, it had to be sharper than mine and as soon as I laid it on the deer, I stopped, and said "what is this?" I just added it to my Christmas list. It had the sharpest blade that I have ever used. The replacement blades aren't really even that expensive, heck, those that have left a review on Amazon claim to have cleaned more than a few animals with one blade and bragged about how long they last. I saw on the 'Bowhunting Talk' forum someone added it to the 'Black Friday Sales' thread. Here it is if you're interested: http://www.havalon.com/havalon-blac...2824&utm_source=hs_email&utm_content=24042824
I caped out my OH buck this year on the ground with a Havalon, I'll never be without one. I'm impressed.
I gutted, caped and broke down my doe today with mine with a few exceptions (aich bone and ribs). Broke one blade but put a replacement on and I was back in business in seconds. I'm sold.
What do yall think about the two bladed knife? One blade being the replacement and the other being a thick, hard, standard knife blade? I'm stuck deciding which one to ask for.
I have the Bolt and absolutely love it. I quartered my deer out with it. I'll pack other knives, but just as a back up. They are awesome!
I generally get an entire whitetail out of 1 blade. That's skinning, quartering, and butchering it. They are great. Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'll toss in another positive vote for the Havalon. I've had one for at least 4-5 years now and won't field dress a deer with anything else.
I helped dress and quarter 2 deer Friday and 2 deer saturday with the Havalon Piranta and only had to change the blade once. That wasn't the knives fault either, that was mine for going to deep on the bone and snapping the blade. You can open a deer like a suitcase with one of those things but you better watch your fingers also because they will straight lay you open.
I have a Cuttco with the double D edge. It's well over 40 years old that was my dads and I am now using it. Can't tell you how many animals have been broke down with this knife. It's also never needed to be sharpened the entire time. No need to worry about broke blades or how to dispose of them PROPERLY. https://www.cutco.com/products/product.jsp?item=hunting-knife I'm in no way affiliated with the company. Just a owner of a quality item made in the USA . Havalon Handles made in China. Blades made in India. No thanks!
I have been using Havalon for three years now and I love it. One blade will last for an entire deer. Not sure about the two blade knife though
I've got a Bolt and a Pirahna... one stays in my deer-hunting pack and the other in my turkey-hunting backpack. Awesome knives.
My father hot me the exact knife for my bday about 20+ years ago. I was irresponsible and lost it. Very fine blade.
We used one to clean up my buddies deer when we were on our hunting trip in SD and I was sold! I came home to find one waiting for me (it was my birthday) and I use it every day as a pocket knife and I haven't needed to change the blade yet! (2 months) Only complaint I have ever heard was from my buddy who had a blade fall out while he was opening up a deer to gut it, but that has been it
A friend I guided on a bear hunt last spring gave me one as a thank you present. I accepted that tiny little orange thing just to be polite and thought I would just leave it in my backpack as an emergency back up. Months later when I shot a big moose bull, my regular knife was having a hard time cutting through the thick bull's hide. I decided to try the Havalon. Holy smoke !!!! I skinned the entire bull with that little baby knife, just amazing ! I really had to be careful not to cut my fingers through the hide. Now my hunting buddies went and bought one too...
No matter how good you are at sharpenning... there is no way to match surgical blades... It's ''Tip-of-the-fingers'' pressure to skin a moose with that knife. Kind of like making your own wooden arrows versus a top of the line carbon Arrow...
Really? I feel like I would be cheating on the knife I have had for 30 years, dang whippersnappers with this progress stuff.
