This weekend was the Ohio youth gun season. I took my second daughter and my oldest daughter (19) sat with my son (he got his first deer a couple years ago) Anyway since she hadn't got a deer I decided because of the wind being perfect I'd sit us in a corner of a field I see deer often but don't have a stand. We just went out and sat against a small tree at the edge of a field. She fell asleep about 7:50 am ...I looked at her and her head was down. LOL everyone has been there. I took the mandatory picture...I'm a dad so I had to... I look out at about 100 yards a few minutes later I see a deer in the field. I whisper to her "deer!" She wakes up and we are trying to get her on the deer... I saw one she saw the second bigger deer...a little miscomunication due to how we were sitting. (her sitting between my legs) anyway we got on the same page finaly and since we were down wind. The deer kept moving our way. A couple times the doe turned broadside but the other deer was in line with her. I'd says don't shoot...they it would move and I even bleated trying to stop the deer by bleating at her... She was at about 70 yards now and ignoring me. But still moving our way. She seemed to know we where there but wasn't so scared she spooked. At 50 yards she made the mistake of stopping quartered hard to us and I told her to go ahead and shoot her. She hit a bit higher than she wanted to and shot through her neck and dropped her in her tracks. The other doe hung around a bit until I moved and spooked her toward my son across the field...he ended up not getting a shot though...My daughters deer poured the blood... I went to make sure it was dead. It twitched a time or two when I got to it. But was dead... Nice healthy doe. Proud Dad.... Look how far the blood is from this deer....massive amount of blood under her lots 15-20 feet away...we couldn't see the deer well because of the corn stalks but it didn't look like it moved a lot after the shot ...mostly twitching...but dang it bled. The whole crew that was out that day...minus me lol
BTW she's 15 and got her temp drivers permit the day before getting this deer... I'd say she is having a good weekend. I'll never forget it.
Thanks guys, a day I'll remember forever. As for broadhead its hornady's new sst.....LOL they are nasty.
