30 pics of nothing?

My Covert Red 40 (which I love) kicked out like almost 30 daytime pics of nothing but unoccupied woods. Could the wind changing position of shadows trigger the cam in this fashion? It was a bright day. It also produced deer pics, so it's picking up subjects as well. Thanks for any insight.

 

I have had that happen many times with my older Bushnell. Specifically when I put it around pine trees and the wind kicks up.

I've also seen it happen with squirrels just out of the capture window of my camera. In these cases I could tell the difference after about a dozen or so pics.

Yeah, I've had a blade of tall grass do the same thing that I thought I cut down. The wind kicked up for a day or two and I had dozens of pictures of nothing.

 

Also had spiders do it.

 

I had a camera take about 6000 pics in a few weeks and I was pumped, uploaded them to the computer and I got a ton of pictures of grass moving☹️

 

Ghosts messing with you maybe?

All of the above are things that I have had happen.

 

My cuddeback was set to take a pic then a video and I had 1200 pics and videos of snow falling.. It's snowing right now, and the camera is out there.. :/ lol

 

Change the Sensitivity from High to Normal and see if that helps. It happens to me a lot. If it faces the rises or setting sun the same thing will happen. Also if there is tall grass or a low hanging limb that the wind can blow hard enough to move will do the same thing.

 

Coverts are notorious about being over sensitive!

 

I've had similar problems but all have been accounted for by at least one of the things mentioned above. Easy fix...after you realize your mistake haha

 

Thanks Sam, one of my 2 Coverts was on high sensitivity, so I put it on "normal". Maybe that was it, we'll see.

 

Another thing to consider is that the field of view of the sensor is wider than the FOV of the camera. Camera makers do this to increase the trigger speed of the camera. This can cause false triggers if the subject just hangs out on the edges. You can remedy this by putting small strips of electrical tape on the outside edges of the sensor. You will have to experiment to see how much of the sensor edges you should cover.

Thanks for the tip. I always wonder if there's something on the fringe of these pics that I'm just not seeing. Actually, both of my Red 40s will do this from time to time. I'll give the tape a try and see if there's a difference.
