I don't use the safety lines, I think its ridiculous to think that taking my hand off my steps/ladder to move a prusik knot up and down would make climbing anymore safe. With that said i never hunt without harness and would feel completely naked without one!
Explain to me how you climb your sticks and step onto your stand while always being 100% secure from falling?
No offense, but that's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen typed. You move the prussic knot at the same time you're moving your hand from one step to the next. You're doing this anyways as you climb the tree. Unless you found a way to climb without ever moving your hands off your bottom stick. 80%+ of treestand accidents and falls happen when climbing up or down from your stand. Not using a lifeline is like only wearing a seatbelt 20% of the time when you're driving.
A majority of falls occur not on the steps but getting into and out of the stand. Whether it be from slipping or the strap going around the tree breaks. Or the occasional step that snaps under your feet. Good luck Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
So that's just as safe as clipping in when you're standing on the ground? Your choice to use one but don't act like it's not safer.
I knew my opinion would be an unpopular one but I take plenty of precautions to ensure my own safety out there, I do appreciate your concern though
There is no safer option for climbing up, in, out, and down from your stand than a life line of some sort. Even if you did somehow slip while moving the prusik knot, you still can't fall to the ground because you are always attached to the tree. Everyone is entitled to use whatever level of safety they want, but saying that using a safe line is ridiculous, well that's just plain irresponsible.
Take all the precautions you want. It only takes one slip of the boot or one failed step or strap and it's all over. Why anyone would be willing to risk life and limb when climbing a tree is beyond me. A friend of Todd's that has been hunting for 40 years all over the globe recently fell while climbing into a stand after a strap on his climbing stick gave way. He took all the proper precautions except for using a lifeline. Now he may never be able to walk to his treestand ever again and could possibly lose all or a part of his foot due to extensive tissue damage. You can bet your last dollar that man wishes he would've had a lifeline in his tree on that fateful hunt.
So you climb up and than hook into a tree strap A tree strap runs from $20 on up, a lifeline you can get for maybe $10 extra... Small price to pay for increased safety.
I believe they also offer shipping direct to you from their website if you wanted to get in on the deal. I've looked into buying rope and making them myself, and I couldn't do it for that price.
If you hunt from a tree stand long enough you will find that a there are two types of people. Those who have fallen or had a near miss and those who are going to fall.
