What is your biggest deer hunting pet peeve?

Mine: When people say "oh it's still bow season?" 2 weeks after opening day.

When people say that they are "hunters" when they hunt just a couple times a year by choice not because of schedule conflict (usually with a gun), and high fence only money saturated "hunters"

Deer dogs..... Blood pressure went up just typing those two words.

If you don't hunt in a deer dog hunting state...consider yourself lucky. Virginia even has a "Right To Retrieve" law which allows hunting dog owners to legally come onto your property at any time without permission or notification to retrieve their hunting dogs.

Hearing somebody unload a clip out of their rifle at a deer.

Having someone call and ask to find their deer only to find out Joe Schmoe just bought the bow or gun and shot it twice in the back yard before going hunting with it.

People who steel and trespass. And when hunters put down other hunters in a non joking way, instead of uniting as a group.

I try to stay away from as many other hunters as possible in the woods. I don't have many complaints at all other than people who walk in and out of a hunting area during prime time deer hunting hours because they are late or want to leave early. Other than that I don't care how a person wants to hunt....Im far away from them.

Next thread I checked after this reminded me of another. Hunters who still in this day believe in the once a spike always a spike type of old thinking.

More of a general hunting thing - but the idea that we (hunters) all have to "stand together" and not question another hunter's actions.

People who want to shoot big deer and talk about it like it's an easy feat, but refuse to put in the time, hard work, and preparation to do so...and then complain at the end of the year that they didn't fill a tag, or had to shoot a "cull" buck...

...I also hate whenever the term "cull buck" is used in the setting of a wild deer herd

Ha. That was me this year. But to my credit, I didn't start hunting until a month after opener. And I prepped for about a month. Getting my hunting areas ready. But then I hunted about 4-5 times a week.

When ever I tag out and I still have friends that haven't and they text me "I need a new spot drop me a pin" when ever I scout and prepare multiple states all summer long, put in plots and working in making my lands better habitat for deer. They are out golfing or boating. Just because you sit in a tree doesn't give you entitlement to shooting deer. And there's many years that I eat tag soup, but at least I know I went out swinging and giving myself the best possiable chance to succeed.
