Since I am tagged out till after shotgun season I starting to go pheasant hunting. Saturday was the first time my 9 month old GSP has gone hunting and he had a blast! We saw close to 60 birds and he pointed and flushed several. Between me and 2 other guys we shot 5 birds and 1 rabbit. My dog did a fantastic job and even watched the bird after they took off and ran to it immediately after if fell. We got some retrieving work to do but I am very pleased! The enemy of training a bird dog, the dreaded rabbit. I can't imagine seeing that many pheasants in a day of hunting.
Ya wasn't to happy about the rabbit but he wasn't as into it as the pheasants so that's good! Numbers have been horrible but have exploded this year. They say they are up 42% and that might be low. They were everywhere! We went for an hour the weekend before last with my friends dog. We saw 20 or more and killed one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love watching my dogs work. Down side is here in WI we really don't have many options unless you join a club. Nice looking dog.
This is something that I dream of doing one day. Also, beautiful dog, I also plan on getting one, one day
Thanks! I love how dark he turned out to be! It's definitely a blast watching them work! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks! It was a dream of mine as well. Was going to get one a few years back but the bird numbers were so bad I decided to wait. This year is looking like a perfect year to train him! He's already got many real life experience and imo is key to training them right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's awesome. Wish we had better pheasant hunting around here. Mostly stocked and the fields are full of hunters when they do stock. My buddy just got a female GSP this summer for bird hunting but I feel like he's already being a little lazy with the training.
Hey sounds like my buddy! Lol. He got a pup from the same litter as my dog and I don't think she has seen a field yet. He's just got a very hyper inside dog. Such a shame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
